Title: Found A Crate
Post by: Tennessee Whiskey on January 31, 2016, 09:21:56 PM
Just for Zee:
Found a crate, found a crate, found a crate just now

Cracked it open, cracked it open, cracked it open just now,

(http://i1310.photobucket.com/albums/s658/tennesseewhiskey1/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-01/68A40170-30B8-4C87-91F0-1F20BA6B0E75_zps7tq4bngy.jpg) (http://s1310.photobucket.com/user/tennesseewhiskey1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-01/68A40170-30B8-4C87-91F0-1F20BA6B0E75_zps7tq4bngy.jpg.html)

A mill popped out, a mill popped out, a mill popped out just now,

Got it setup, got it setup, got it setup just now

And no Zee, it isn't a dream  :naughty:

I told y'all I was going to do something about that Z height problem :lolb: :lolb:

Very nice my friend; doesn't even have any cast iron dust on it yet.
Dog doesn't seem to care much about all the fuss.

Oh, the horizontal band saw doesn't match the color theme  :lolb:

Nice addition yo your very cool shop!

Eric,

Fantastic.

As you are unpacking, I spent last Friday packing. Due to a refurbishment of the depot where my shop is located it has to be moved to a new location. All was tied down strapped to the walls etc. I last saw it disappearing around the corner of the warehouse courtesy of a 7 ton forklift. I'm hopeful I will be able to find it next Friday and then I just have to wait for the wiggly amps to catch up.

Regards
Bob

Nice mill.  I see it just fits in the shop, unless you make the dog sleep outside :lolb:

Have fun with it and enjoy the "Z"

Cheers,
Phil

Eric,
Congratulation's with the new mill. Is that a rubber bumper MGB I see in the background? I actually rebuild the shocks for those things for a living.

Hey dog, you got any speed control on that new vertical bandsaw? Is it for wood or metal...?

Cletus:

How much extra did it cost to get the mill (and prior the bandsaw) in "dog" color? Was that special order?

Nice set up and nice new mill.

Thanks.

Hugh

Congratulations on your new arrival    :wine1:

There seems to be too much space in your workshop  :) you need a few more machines to keep it company :stir:

Be cheaper to paint the dog...

I've said it before. Too pretty to use.
Beautiful mill. The Jet stuff is a step up from Grizzly.
Almost worth tending the BBQ through the night if that's a payoff.
I know it was a toss-up between the Jet and one of the few remaining NOS, in-the-original-crate Bridgeports at MSC. Jet, though, has a service facility not far from Springbucket. (That'd be Bubba with a wrench and hammer)  :lolb:

Seriously, outstandingly spectacular.

I have never figured out why they paint their machines that creamy white color...it looks good on DOG though :)

Because most other imports are green (except when Grizzly switched to cream)

So does Bridgeport own the rights to gray? :)

Thanks everybody for stopping by.  Don, the bandsaw has a transmission for speed adjustment  and can be used for wood or metal.  It was on sale at Enco and I tried using a coupon for 25% off and free shipping and they took it,  so, it was half price with free shipping.  Jo, I have a good bit of R8 tooling started,  so it works out for the best.  Roger,  I think the shop has all the machines I'll ever want now,  well unless I find a small OD/ID grinder or maybe a small shaper  or a real nice old big drill press :lolb:. Hugh, DOG was a bit happier over the color of the Jet machines compared to the Grizzly,  as they don't appear to be as "creamy "  and whiter, no up charges though.  Vern, I did think long and hard about the Bridgeport,  but,  it was about the same base price with no extras as this one was with DRO, X,Y, axis powerfeeds, phase converter,   and pneumatic drawbar. And yes,  the service center being a 20 minute drive from the shop and also being the selling dealer played a part in the selection  ( took Bubba some BBQ when I bought it  :lolb:) Bill,  I'm planning on enjoying it and wish I could use it enough to have to have it rebuilt before I die,  twice actually  :lolb: :lolb:.  I also wonder what happened to good old industrial grey.  I'm betting it was one of those "productivity " studies at the root of it's demise : " If you paint your machines a happy color then your employees will be happier "  :lolb:  Think I'll go wipe some fingerprints off of it now  8)

As long as it is only fingerprints and DOG has not been drooling on it

What a phenomenal sized workshop, nice to have space to move around and park a few vehicles.  I thought 10 x 8 metres was quite large. Very envious.  You could get lots more machines in there.  Jo certainly would try.

On Jo's favourite topic of never having enough machines.  Is a BCA Mk 2 Jig Borer worth having. Trouble is the one I'm looking at only has one collet fitted with a drill chuck and needs quite a bit of cleaning.

Mk 2 Jig borer: Yes for a very small sum of money. But collets are next to impossible to come by. One of the suppliers does a few arbors left for a reasonable  price after that you will be on your own. And it is a three phase motor  ::).

The Mk3 is the preferred machine. Prices for one start around £250 if they have no collets. And so up to several thousand for a nice one on a stand all kitted out and sexy

Cletus,
Congrats on your new toy. We are expecting bigger and better things from you now.

In the third photo it looks like DOG has about as much enthusiasm as COOT gets when I get a new toy. It doesn't sniff like food, don't think it can scratch my butt and I'll probably get killed if I pee on it. I think I will just lay here out of the way with one eye open so I don't get stepped on as the old man circles it with his fingerprint wiping cloth.

Stay tuned.
Will it make chips?
Will Cletus get a greasy handprint on it?

Need pictures of the first chips.

Elvis,
I sent you a little something to help pay for the cost of the new crate. Better use it quickly, before the Yankees hit town again.
