Title: Feeling Groovy ....
Post by: Bluechip on June 28, 2018, 11:18:19 AM
Hi Troops ..

Ordered one of these on the 20th.  Arrived yesterday. 7 days from China  :)

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10Pcs-MGMN200-Inserts-With-MGEHR1010-2-1616-2-2020-2-Lathe-Grooving-Tool-Holder/322519656504?var=511497467909&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49130%26meid%3Daa941936863b442782650d077b726503%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D322519656504%26itm%3D511497467909&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Parted a slice off a lump of 25mm dia. EN8B this morning, with just a slosh of Rocol RTD, no bother at all.

Also a sort-of 'cooling fin groove'  about 8 mm deep on a bit of 6082T6, nice ...

Rather impressed so far.

Similar item obtainable elsewhere at greater cost .....  :headscratch:

The round nose inserts are also useful, mine tends to get used for them more than grooving/parting. Good for where you want a small fillet.

I'd agree with JasonB that the round inserts are useful, probably more so than the square ended ones:

In one of the pictures in the listing given in the original post the insert is incorrectly placed in the holder. With the amount of unsupported overhang shown the insert will likely break.  :'(

And if the insert survives the holder may not :-[

Actual problem was not enough of the work in the chuck when parting off

Now what was it the late Mr. Stevenson would say  :headscratch:

Ah yes. I remember!

'Incautious person. Off to the naughty step with you.'

Or very near ...  ;D

I think it would have been more like clumsy bar stool , I think that what he said when I met him while he was delivering my mill only lived just blown the road
