Title: Forum advice...good or bad?
Post by: zeeprogrammer on August 15, 2012, 05:30:16 PM
I just had to resurrect this...some of you will remember...

Some time ago I was having trouble fitting reamers into my little mill. And the advice from some members (some of you I reckon) was to shorten them.

And so I did.

I wished I'd realized you were funning with me.

If you ever get any advice involving the use of a prick punch, consult us before proceeding.

Nah - It'll be fine Carl - will just cut slightly undersize, and will produce smoother results if you add a light feather to the front cutting edges before use  ;)

Hmmm....  Looks a little fishy to me...      But if it's on the forum it must be true right?  :paranoia:

Cheers

So, it was Zee they were talking about when they made up the old saw;
"Cut it off three times, and it's still too short."

   I enjoyed that.

Bill...Yep. It ain't so.

Marv...I was going to ask about the worry of a prick punch. But no...I don't think I will.

Thanks guys. Hope you enjoyed it.

tel...Yeah I tried to improve it before posting. Looked fine enough on my monitor but I wasn't surprised if it'd still show enough. Still...probably got a few people on first glance.

Thanks for popping in all. Hope it was enjoyable.

Just wanted to be clear about a couple of things...

The people who suggested I shorten the reamer, forgetting that I was (and still am) a newbie, simply didn't state it should be from the shank end. I took advantage of that to have some fun with them.

And if there's any question about that short reamer...it's a fake picture.  ;D

Nope! The picture is real, it's the subject matter that is faked!  :stir:

Hiya Tin.
Glad to see you here.
I saw the tool box you got. I think it's nice. 'Americana' is the right word.

It took a bit of soul searching to decide to join.  I am still active on HMEM .  I decided there was no reason not to get involved here as well. The tool box was cheap enough I could not say no. I expect  the guy still made a few bucks on it. I also expect that many of the vendors did not even make table fees that day. it Poured rain just a few minutes after I got the tool box to the car.
it needs a latch some yahoo probably took it off to scrap for the brass. Oh well.
