Title: Miniature pressure regulator
Post by: BillTodd on June 17, 2015, 07:07:25 PM
This is work in progress but , is there any interest here?

Regulator's body here is 15 x 15 x 45mm

That could be useful Bill. What kind of inlet pressure are you designing for? I have moved the topic to engine ancillaries BTW.

I'm keeping it a modest couple of bar ATM [edit sorry, I read outlet pressure, Inlet is limited by the glued fixing of the valve seat] . If it works it should be easy to stack a number of them into one body so making a regulated manifold.

This is how it is supposed to work

Well, it works... Sort of...

I had a couple of problems:
no 4mm balls ,plenty of 3,5,6,8,16 but not a 4 anywhere in the shed!
The 5mm in a 5.5mm bore restricts the gas flow considerably.

And, the carefully measured and calculated O ring is the wrong size for my 12.7 mm piston. The result is too much friction, and excessive hysteresis. I stretched a small one over the piston to try it but although it worked better, it leaked .

All in all though a promising start.

Sorry about the poor pics, camera has gone walk-about again.
