I have always admired horse drawn vehicles and have built several models over the years.
I found some drawings for this 1/8 scale gig online, the model is 14in long 8in wide and 9in high, the wheels are 6in dia, a nice size to work on.
As the wheels are quite fine in section, I thought it would be difficult to make them in the tradional way, so I opted for acrylic. The rim is turned as one piece and the spokes are tuned from square section, then pinned in place before gluing, the tyre is 4mm O-ring material, the body is made from styrene, and the metal work from brass.
A different challenge from building engines!

Awesome job and details Mike and I am found of carriages also. I was born and raised on a farm picking cotton and digging potatoes. Brings back memories of my old aunt that drove a horse and buggy till the day she died.
