Here is an interesting gadget, I had been meaning to make one for years and then one turned up at my club's white elephant sale, no one knew what it was so I got it and a box of other bits by the same author for 50p :pinkelephant:.

Nice but it is hard to know how big it is.
I do not think it is an emergency handle for a foil. :Jester:

The plate is 3" * 3 1/2", the total height is 4" :mischief:

Is it a clamp for holding thin items when you want to drawfile them?

Looks like if it were held in a regular vice the X links would keep the two jaws parallel but only just above the table.

Possible jaw height adjustment by sliding the fixed jaw up and down the block that is held to the plate with two screws

That was quick. Yes it is a Tubal Cain thin piece vice, it was originally published in Model engineer.

Here is a photo of it being used to clean up the face of a cotter:

The height adjustment means that it will happily hold things down to 10thou. :ThumbsUp:
