The Frerichs is nice and not unlike our "Sanderson" beam engine.

The Atelier castings look to be very good quality. MiM has been running a series on building the Non Dead centre musgrave engine and those castings also look good quality but I need to look back and see if they were original Matrian castings or from this company.

Now the question is where can I get some of these "Hissing taps" that are is the translated description 

Given that I know extremely little about casting other than the one time I did a sand casting in high school shop class, I'll ask:  I'm wondering about the epoxy use in the core. Wont the epoxy melt/sag/deform at the first sign of heat? Or is there so little that it doesnt matter?

thanks for this information. I haven't read MiM magazine for a long time. I canceled the subscription because there was less and less news about steam engine models. I have always greatly admired Lothar Matrian's models at exhibitions. He was a gifted model maker and engineer. At exhibitions he was happy to give information about how he measured the large engines in the museums himself and then drew the construction plans. I haven't heard from him in a long time. Maybe he died.
I wanted to build the “Frerichs” beam engine myself.

For me personally the magazine was “das dampfmodell”
The best German-language magazine on the subject of model steam engines. Unfortunately, it was around 12 years. I also liked the models and castings from Dietmar Carsten (the editor of “das dampfmodell”).
The “Dora” and “Oda” are still waiting in the drawer to be processed.
(The castings are from Atelier MB and can still be purchased there.)

mixed the delft sand/clay with a very small amount of epoxy, the core casting feels nice and strong but still scrapes and sands well, may make an attempt at a casting thursday..
