Post by: bspurge on May 10, 2018, 06:28:39 AM
What's the best online market to purchase materials from? I'm looking for 6061-T6 aluminum square bar stock for the engine block.

The introduction says  "Hello from Indiana", so we European guys are not the best information source  in this case, I´m afraid.

I generally get my stock from these two vendors:

https://www.onlinemetals.com (https://www.onlinemetals.com)

http://www.speedymetals.com/#&panel1-2 (http://www.speedymetals.com/#&panel1-2)

Between the two of them you generally can find what you need but beware of the eye watering shipping costs. I recommend you order everything you need for your project in one order so that you only get hit once.

I used both of those as well.
But sometimes an order is split between them because of differences in prices.

Hobby Metal Kits is located in Wisconsin. If you don’t see the particular size you’re looking for drop them an email. They will supply whatever you need. And, their shipping is very reasonable

For larger size chunks, give the Drop Zone area on Yarde Metals website a look, they sell offcut pieces from their commercial sales at a discount. Selection varies.

Discount Steel has been another good source, not related except as a customer.
