I just picked up a Model 109.21280 craftsman lathe. While there is rust here and there and most of the change gears and some handles are missing, it seems in fairly good shape. Does not seem to have been used much at all, just neglected mostly. Just thought I would see if anyone out there had an extra set of change gears laying around. If not I will see about making some when I get to that point. The pic shows what is on the lathe and in the box of random parts.
It also has what appears to be a milling attachment, although I have yet to figure out how it attached.
Comments are welcome.

Have you checked with the Sears parts website. You may be surprised that some parts for even old lathes are still available. If not from them, Google Craftsman lathe parts vendors. There are enough out there that there is still a decent aftermarket for parts.

Sears has nothing for this model, I gather it is kind of an odd duck, last of the 109 searies before they went to the 101 series from Atlas.

I think Sears purchased those through Atlas. and that it's an Atlas 6".....but I would research that a bit.

Bill: that is horse of different color. the link you posted to is of a craftman 109 aka craftman dunlap. not the same lathe.
i belive what the OP has is a Atlas MK2

Bill, thanks for the link to the change gears, I wonder if they will fit as they seem to be for a later model. I will look into it. Of course, I need to decide how much money I want to put into another lathe, I already have two larger ones.

IMHO, if you want to see if you can resurrect it, do it on the cheap and as a challenge to gain some skills The 6" Atlas lathes parts are pricey bits on the "Bay" and honestly, not that spectacular.
However, if one was to make change gears, and other missing parts, as personal challenges, instead of "monetary investments", then it's a going proposition. Much can be learned making up the parts you need. Making a gear cutter for instance, and then cutting the gears, the originals were Zamak, which is a die cast aluminum alloy, could be aluminum or 12L14 and that wouldn't be out of the question as a substitute material, that is fun to machine.
Otherwise....well....that's up to you.

Yup 3D print too...thats my point do what ever floats the boat. For cheap.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have been thinking about a 3d printer and this would be a great excuse. I had pretty much decided that I would take some time and make most of the missing bits. I have the equipment, just not the time right now. Too many other projects, but 3d printing the gears just sounds cool. And I could do it in the house instead of the cold shop.
