Title: A UK MEM Display Day?
Post by: Ramon Wilson on March 27, 2014, 08:00:23 PM
Hi Guys,

Some of you may recall that sometime back Jo thought we UK based members could perhaps get together on an occasional basis but unfortunately there was insufficient uptake to make it worthwhile.

Musing on this I wondered if that was maybe just once a year and possibly at an event already being held that there might be sufficient interest to make something happen.  I suggested to Jo that perhaps we could put on a display at the Guildford show and asked her to see what the response would be from the powers that be.

Today I received a very positive email from event 'co-ordinator' Bryan Finch indicating that he can provide three to four 6ft by 28" tables (inside a marquee) one of which would be used by Jo should she wish to follow on from her demo of last year - Jo? If there's enough response I'm sure we could make that the four  ;)

So - here's an opportunity to get together to talk engines and display our wares to the public and help put MEM a bit more on the map.

The event takes place this year on July 5th and 6th. It would be nice if you can make both days but that's NOT a prerequisite - if you can only make one of them that's just fine but we do need to know what kind of input we could expect. Please, do be realistic - don't just think that sounds like a good idea and say you'll come then decide otherwise later. If you really would like to be part of it though just respond to this in the first instance so we can gauge the kind of response - we can decide on space requirements a little later.

I think it should be made clear that this is very much about MEM members - all of them, whatever their skills and level of expertise - if you are a member but feel a little reticent then don't be. A display of what we are about needs to include every level so don't be shy.

Personally I think this would be good if we can make this happen so I look forward to hearing from at least someone  - now, don't y'all rush at once  ;)

Regards - Ramon

I'm interested in this - probably can't make both days but no reason why not one of the days.

If I were there...I'd go.
Videos and pics are obviously a must.
I can suggest a model to attract attention and show off those engines.  :naughty:

Good idea.  I'm available both days and can do some preparatory work as well.  I might even have a finished exhibit by then  8)

Tug, thanks for giving Bryan a  :stickpoke: I had discussed the idea of a MEM stand with him back at the Alley Palley show and he hasn't been responding since :wallbang:

I can fill two trestle tables with my models alone  :lolb: But I must be honest that trying to move so many models on your own is hard work :(

As for his comment on the next chapter of my machining demo  these things take time to plan, scrounge the parts and do the preparation machining. I had a nice little engine lined up  :naughty: but here we are three months from the show and I have been bitten by the  bug  :-\ (Not forgetting that C1 is likely to be sold by then ;D)

(Models are allowed to be exhibited for only one day  ;))

I would be interested in helping out, possibly on both days (will have to check work calendar).

I could bring quite a few exhibits, some in a more 'completed' state than others.  I do have a few 'runners'! ;)

As I already have my invitation I'll likely bring a model or three.

Just for anyone thinking of traveling and exhibiting you will need to deliver the model(s) either Friday late afternoon or before the show opens between 8.00 to 9.00 am without checking. You also have to wait until the show has closed to the public before models can be removed this is around 5.30 onwards. So something to bear in mind if you have a long way to travel.

Jason,

Last year was an exception as our Safety man had a stroke just as the show finished :o and we had to stay in the tent whilst the ambulance arrived and took him away.

Tony was very pleased his procedures worked as well as they did as they got him to hospital very fast  and he was well enough to play choo choo trains :ShakeHead: the following weekend .

Hi Guy's - a long day but back to my comfort zone ;D

Thanks for the input Jason and Jo.

Okay then - lets assume this is now a goer. We have a (current) potential of eight including myself and a possible nine if Jim (Heff) can make it.

I know you have a table already Jason as has Eric O but I had already taken the liberty of assuming you would both put something on a MEM table too should there be one ;)

So that makes (in no specific order)

Jason
Jo
Eric O
Anthony
Rod
JGB
Simon
Ramon
Jim (possible)

Should anyone else offer to support it too then I'll update the list at each post.

At this stage I know we all have lots of models that could probably overwhelm the tables but I think the best thing now is for me to go back to Bryan confirming our intent and request the four tables. Once we have that confirmation we can work out space for each as necessary.

Jo, I know it's a bit late for much preparation on your part but do you intend to continue with your demo - and does that take a whole table or more?
Also can you enlighten me on ....? Surely not?
(Models are allowed to be exhibited for only one day  ;))

Bryan has requested I forward your email addresses so he can send you individual information packs. If you could all PM me over the weekend I'll do this collectively first thing Monday. Obviously this isn't necessary if you already have it - Jason, Jo, Eric,

Should anyone else decide to come along please do the same and I'll add you to the list.

Now, having talked this over with Jo in the first instance I'm assuming at this stage no one minds me taking the bull between the horns in the first instance. I'm quite happy to do so to get this off the ground to begin with - let's see what develops  from it :)

'Don't forget your PM's'

Regards - Ramon

I would like suggestions for the pictures to make a new series of posters  ;) I stole from the forum last year :-[ And if anyone would like some posters of their own builds to be exhibited/to take home on A0 ;)

It would be really nice to have a few R&B's, in what ever state they are, I am sure mine will be running by then  :whoohoo: and a picture of all of them with the original designer (Bruce) would be  nice and I am sure (at his age  :-\) he would appreciate the pleasure we have had of his design  ;).

I wonder if we could exhibit Edgar Westbury's entire engine collection  :naughty:, very naughty to claim it for MEM but they are

Jo

P.S. I think a picture of Zee in a fetching outfit would be the star of the show  :naughty:

Jo are these posters for a backdrop? Sounds great. According to Bryan we will be situated against a wall where these can be hung. Can we get one done of the Logo and name too?

I have what is termed "community support" from my company who (claims against their tax  :lolb:) support for a number of community activities, they particularly like anything that has an engineering bias ;).

Last years posters had our logo and name :naughty: But I also had printed out copies of the MEM build threads/logs for each of the featured engines. I bet you hadn't noticed that ;)

P.S. I think a picture of Zee in a fetching outfit would be the star of the show

Very much appreciated! But I cannot take the chance of detracting from the show.

Further, there is no fetching outfit in the world that could distract anyone from the real star.  :LittleDevil:
The best I could hope for from any viewer is..."So glad you're here Jo. Very glad. You have no idea how glad. But really really glad."  :lolb:

However, if you're interested in a private viewing.... :naughty:

I don't have a table of my own, just invite to exhibit, I had been waiting to see if they would go on Jo's MEM table or just in teh general display.

Thanks Jason, I was about to remind Jo I took a long break just before the event last year so missed all the coverage. Can you remember how many tables there were in that display in total?

That looks to be a superb backdrop - do you still have them Jo or do you really want to have something different. I notice the glass screen - does that answer my previous question - how much space do you need?

We are now off sailing for the day. We've just bought a beautiful wood built 'A rater' between us and today's the first sail of it for us.
We both really need the break and the weather is just perfect  :)

I have just emailed Bryan with four names/addresses so we should receive something from him in due course - Thanks Simon, Rod, and John for responding. I have heard nothing from Anthony or Jim ??

I have asked for four tables so hopefully we will have enough space for everyone's exhibits.

Should anyone else like to join in there's still plenty of time - but the sooner the better as space is obviously a limitation.

Guys - I've just received my invitation/entry form -  I've only had a cursory look and not digested them fully but I think that if we put 'FOR MEM DISPLAY' just under the heading on TABLE 2 attached to the entry form that will help Bryan to keep us together  :).

There is the possibility of another member - with some very nice engines - more later if that works out.

Well, I've booked the hotel and just sent off the form so short of any disaster occurring I'm in as they say  :)  Lets hope for good weather .

Jo, what plans if any do you have for advertising MEM - are you doing those backdrops as before? Will we need table covers or are they provided and is there anything you need me to do 'tween now and then?

If anyone else would like to join in here it's not too late but you will need to fill in an entry form and get it off to Bryan by June 1st. PM me your email address and I'll send you the necessary

Regards for now - Ramon

PS I still don't know the exact number of tables but have just asked Bryan if he is able to confirm that yet.

I was planning on a new series of back drops. Last years posters were based around:

This year thinking to move it to a more community feel:

The problem is the poster titles need to be short  :wallbang:
- - -
The tables will have covers on them. I will need to bring my electric extension, last year this was a problem..

We need more simple engines for the youngsters to engage in :stickpoke:

I might pin one half of the Double Tangye in parts on a board and see if I can get the other half running on its own behind it.

I'm planning on bringing the Wyvern and my own design 10cc Side valve engine

It's in bits at the moment, being cleaned and polished but I could put together a display board showing drawings, photos of internals and some rationale for the design.

I've also got a Stuart 10V which we could display as a "simple" engine or I would be happy to take it apart as an exploded display of bits if that would help.

Whatever you guys want to do I'm happy to go along with and help in any way I can - I've plenty of time  8)

Cheers,
Rod

Hi Guys - it's good to see the enthusiasm building ;)

Jo I missed your post on the 17th but did you get my emails in response to yours on the backdrops?

Just to update everyone - as of this point in time I still have no idea how many tables we will be allotted.

Brian did say in his first contact he thought he could give us three, possibly four - I asked for four as at that point I was under the assumption that he would allot said tables and then leave us to get on with it. I can see now though that he has a need to establish each individual item for insurance/security purposes so now I'm assuming he will allow sufficient table space to cater for what is entered under the MEM 'banner'

At this point we have two new additions to the previous participants list....

Chris Collinson
Alan Daines

Chris will be bringing some of the engines he recently brought when he visited me and intends to run them on air
I'm not sure what Alan is entering but he intends to be there for the two days. I shall be bringing my Double Diagonal which I'd like to run and the IC engines built so far.

Jo - Jason - can you tell us what arrangements if any are usually in place for overnight security of exhibits?

Rod - looking forward to seeing that  side valve

Regards for now - Ramon

All the exhibits are wired to alarm systems, I think there is a note in the paperwork which says you need to provide a means to pass the wire through. There is overnight security, not sure if its a firm or a couple of members who stay on site, Jo should be able to confirm.

Models are also booked in as they arrive and you can't remove them without booking them out with your receipt.

J

Post by: Ramon Wilson on April 22, 2014, 04:42:06 PM
Thanks Jason - yes I did read that about the wire - will make things interesting for the IC engines  :-\ it was the overnight bit that I didn't notice anything. I think I shall remove the I/C engines then as there is no way a wire can be passed through them.

Title: Re: A UK MEM Display Day?
Post by: Jasonb on April 22, 2014, 04:57:29 PM
Ramon something like a split ring that you find on a key ring fitted to one of the mounting holes would allow the plug on the end of the wire to pass. A tab with a large hole in it could be held to a mounting hole with bolt and nylock nut. Or a lot of people put the aero engines on a simple stand with the wire passing between engine and stand.

Yes I did see the reply

The insurance company requires that we pay a  :o vast sum for professional security guard from an approved company for both Friday and Saturday night.

There is a free BBQ for all exhibitors Saturday night. Me: I am normally knackered but I might be tempted by the right company :embarassed:

It's the thought of scraping that beaded finish that dismissed the idea of a split ring Jason - as an old control line friend was wont to say - 'I'll have to give this some serious thought' ;)

Jo - that's good news about the security but what do you mean - 'the right company'? - what better company could you be with  ;)

I would like to make up a display board of the stages of building a model engine for the show. So I was thinking to make up a board of: "we start with this" (Jo's Sealion castings  :naughty:), "we machine it" (Some of Jo's Seal bits  :mischief:) and it ends up like "this" (completed four cylinder engine.. ideally that runs  8)).

So I am looking for someone who would be willing to display a completed multicylinder engine, ideally a seal/sealion or Seal major at the show as that would look like the other two I have :).

Jo has the facility to get large posters done and hopefully one of them will be of the forum logo as yours though not quite so large.

Hi guys - Thanks for responding Jason, Simon, Rod - still need to hear from ModelSteam and JGB and Eric.

At this stage it looks like we need three and a half tables for those responding so far - Jo can you give Eric a nudge and work your charm on Brian to make sure we get four tables as the minimum.

Basic requirement as it stands at the moment is (very rough estimates - nothing cast in stone)

Jason    3/4 Table
Jo         1-1/2
Rod      1/2
Chris    1/2
Ramon  1/4

Leaves 1/2 a table for Eric and JGB

I don't think I've left anyone out and it looks a bit late now space-wise for other entrants

Regards - Ramon

I wouldn't want anyone to feel we didn't have space for their engines so I can always cut down on the size of the display board for the stages in making a model engine  ;)

A couple of smaller engines for in front of the R&B would be nice.

I am thinking about display boards for a youngster  :headscratch:  My thoughts are putting the following bits and bobs together with something they can read. was tempted to encourage a bit of handling but that might cause problems for others

So words and music:

1. We can make model engines using castings. This body of an engine was cast in sand, with “cores” which made the holes inside the aluminium:

2. When we make the castings we machine some of the rough surface flat, we make holes (boring) for each of the cylinders, crankshaft, the cam shaft and the valves. Because aluminium is soft it wears very quickly so it is necessary to fit pieces of steel as liners to some of the holes:

3. The crankshaft of the engine if simple can be made up of pieces of metal pinned together:

More complicated crankshafts are made by turning from a solid bar. Each of the crankpins requires the crankshaft to be held on a different centre to be machined:

The engines also require a cam, each of the lobes must be individually machined with the lobe of the cam at just the right angle and at just the right height so that they open and close the valves in the right order at the right time.

The connecting rods can also be made of castings:

Or can be made from pieces of metal (This rod is a reject!)

-  -   -   -

It is so easy to carry on adding bits but will this get them hooked or bored? :-\

Jo

Jo,

Looks just the job to me.  The general populace seem genuinely surprised that it is actually possible to make an engine, just like real one that you find in a car.  My personal view is that you could include more but I'll walk well out of my way to read any information board so I'm probably not a good judge - neither do I have kids.

Cheers,

Rod

I used to know a guy who had a steam calliope and a stationary engine in his front hall. Big house. He played with old cars.

Ok I have tacked the board together into something that I think is acceptable.

And before any one asks this is what it is leaning against  ;) Just what everyone keeps in their dining room  :LittleDevil: but don't ask me to show you what is stored on the floor on the other side of the room  :hellno:

Board looks good Jo.

Are you doing the live turning demonstration again?

Hope to make the display stand for one of my exhibits this weekend and put the finishing touches to another engine so should all be ready for the show.

I thought that a view of the GMES club grounds might be of interest to people who had not seen a british club before. We rent a corner of the council park by Stoke rounderbout. The bottom left green area has the top loops of the 7 1/4" and 5" running around it.  The building at the bottom is the club house the right hand section is the workshop, then the main club room.  Then there is the Station before the 16mm track and the steaming bays.

For the Rally there will be a big marquee in this first field on the right side where our MEM display stand will be situated as well as the Gas Turbine Builder Association, Internal Combustion Engine Group, Roy Darlington and of course the SMEE

The field at the top of the picture is where the traction engines  will be situated and most of the traders  ;) To play it safe I am planning to have a set of castings delivered directly to my car on Saturday, to be installed on the dining room table by the evening :mischief:

Hi Guys - my sincere apologies for not keeping up with things - the last few weeks have been full of varying distractions and yes 'plastic' would be one of them   ;D - there's a show looming which I would like to finish a new project for. That said there's been a holiday in there for a few days away as well as catching up on various jobs and of course that never ending drain on modelling time - the garden.

Suddenly here we are and it's just over a week away  :o - however I do have new electrics to the outer 'workings' and finally a newly plumbed airline - that bead blaster is now up and running ::) and as you will see elsewhere I have just found time to get a bit more progress on the boiler.

Jo - Despite several attempts I have had no luck with getting the MEM logo embedded into a template for making neat little description cards. At this stage I'm going to have to say it's now a bit late in the day so we'll have to 'make do and mend'. I see you have been busy though, you've made a nice descriptive board there - have you been able to get any posters done too?

I was at a (plastic) model event on Sunday when suddenly this person I vaguely recognised but could not quite 'place' stood before me. It was my friend Chris - newly introduced on here he tells me as 'Model Steam' and the last person I expected to see at such an event. Turned out he had rung that morning to be told where I was so jumped in his car and came over to the show. Needless to say talk was of the coming event and we're both looking forward to a great weekend and meeting up with everyone who's coming.

Lets hope for some good weather - it's been raining like hell here today

Regards for now - Ramon

I for one am pulling for you guys to have a great success and a wonderful time promoting our hobby and MEM.  If you should care, I've had a bit of experience of "luring the crowd" and I would suggest: give them something to nibble or drink while looking. I guess a good cold pint and a pork sandwich is out of the question, but, something as simple as some cold lemon water Or a  good bowl of hard candy will work, try to at least make some oral contact with the lookers that look more  than the complimentary look, and if all else fails, Jo, show 'em a little skin >:D. Hey, it works here in Dixie. Seriously guys I'm excited for you and us, have fun and

Hi Rod

Thanks for the kind offer - yes I was thinking of an A5 sized template but could not get the logo to embed - in hindsight I guess I could have done it the 'practical' way and printed it out then scanned it but that didn't occur at the time  ::)

I see that that the exhibitors notes request an 'A5 sized card with up to 15 lines of text at 14 point font size'

Apart from not getting this done I still have to make a display board for the engines  ::) - probably start next Thursday ;)

Thanks again

Ramon

Each entry will have a card with it from the Guildford club that contains any details that were given on the entry form, they do ask :

"Please enter as much detail as possible, type, scale, builder, year of completion, points of interest, and any awards won"

By the time you have these and MEM ones it may get a bit cluttered, the Guildford ones are the yellow and non members get the same on a white background. The different colours make it easier for the judges as only members are eligible for awards.

:lolb: No its me who has to watch that chuck, the safety screen protects the innocent public from the headstock oil. I was surprised that my thin yellow top was not stripey. Weather depending I was planning to dress up in the same sort of unusual workshop wear again this year, I will yet convince people that it is not only  :old: who make model engines

Last year I was successful when I advertised for the Cowells mill, I acquired C2 a few weeks later and of course Sexy moved in later in the year. So the question is how do I advertise for what I want this year without making it too obvious  :mischief:.

Well it's not long now - well done on the posters Jo - A1 will be fine I'm sure and as you say you can always fall back on last years A0s should it be neccessary.

For once, despite my usual penchant for last minute flurry of activity I haven't quite left it as late as normal and have finally got the engines mounted to a base - should have done it months ago as they look much better than stuffed in cardboard boxes  ::) - hell, they've even made the sideboard  :o Here's a 'sneeky' preview

I'm only officially exhibiting these and the Double Diagonal engine but shall bring a couple of individuals along should anyone want to examine them a bit more closely. They may not be on prominent display so please ask should you have an interest.  Chris (Modelsteam) is intending to run his engines and hopefully I'll be able to couple up the DD to his manifold and join in the fun.

Looking forward to meeting you all on Sunday (where I shall be quite happy to be referred to as 'Tug' by all)

Jason, you missed some of the best of it today, we had a great time chatting about all of our engines. And no doubt will do more tomorrow :pinkelephant:

SCO has tried my Cowells. Some idiot let someone ask her to demonstrate how free her top slide was and managed to break her fine parting off blade, so after forgetting the tailstock die adapter, the turning could have gone better

Some pictures of your engine would complete the line up.

Don't worry I had a good chat with Ramon and Rod down at the other end of the tables though I may not have given your end the attention it deserved!!

Great photos and videos! Thank you so much for taking the time to make them and post them.

I first saw that cup in one of the videos. It looked familiar and now I see it is indeed the logo. Cool!

I admit it can be quite discouraging to see all the fine work out there. I always remind myself that we all started much the same and that someday I can do as well.

Love those shows.
Over here we have only the steam days at Nienoord.
I can remember that there where demonstrations of metal casting, and a lot off small engine building.
This is due to the bad economy not shown a couple off years but I hope that this kind of demonstrations will come back again.
Beautiful show you have and hoop you keep it.

Well Guys I finally dragged this tired old body into some semblance of working order to get on here a'fore breakfast before you all give up on ever seeing how much we all enjoyed ourselves  :)

For those who couldn't (Alan, I hope you make a speedy recovery) - or didn't make it - I can tell you you really missed a great show. The organisation put in by the members of the Guildford Club was extremely impressive and a joy to be on the receiving end of - the whole event, I guess even right down to the occasional shower(?) gave an atmosphere of a really well run Summer Fete - everyone really enjoying themselves.

As you have already seen with Jo's and Sco's and Rod's postings there were some great models on display. I think it would be fair to say without being too self congratulatory that we did ourselves proud too on the MEM display

Although it was great to meet up with some old faces from previous modelling past it was meeting up with the new ones that made the event.  Jo, Simon, Rod, Jason and John - it was a real pleasure to be in your company for the all too short time - Eric of course, bless him, (who encouraged me to fire up that Eta and yes those two knocks really did hurt - I had left my trusty starting glove behind not intending to get all smelly with diesel fuel ::)) I've known for many a year and not forgetting Chris and Gill whose company we enjoyed not only at the show but for dinner in the evening. Rod surprised us all with a really nice gift - not only considerate forethought but a generous one too - a 'MEM' mug featuring the MEM logo and personalised too to boot - Thanks indeed Rod
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iNiyPMHVjHM/U7pRLc_YNiI/AAAAAAAAJh8/VVRH66fT1eY/s912/DSCF4970.JPG)

Enough I here you say - what about those pics ? Well here's my few, but first Guys - a big thanks must go to Jo for all her effort in the preparation - and I have to tell ya - shes not only a pleasant 'gal' to be with but her models are testament to her skills - don't you believe her when she says she can't paint - the pics of the S and P don't do the finish justice - well done Jo, as Ol' Whiskey would probably have it  'You done real fine'

With all the pics so far I just took some consecutive shots along the stand yesterday morning . Working left to right ......

That's more or less it guys - I'm sure we'll all do it again - It was a long drive for Sue and I - not quite so bad coming home so maybe - we are talking about it in a positive manner though ;)

Finally I would just like to say it was really nice to have people come up and introduce themselves - some who post, others who stay in the background - it shows just how much we get from our fraternity - I don't play such a constant part as perhaps I'd like too but truly, this is a great 'Brotherhood' to belong to.

Regards - Ramon

Wonderful shots Ramon. Thanks so much for taking the time.
The group shots are great. It is so good to see you all.
Sounds like a wonderful show and everyone had a good time.

I sure wouldn't mind joining you all one of these years. I do travel to the UK on occasion.

Ramon a big thank you for these photos and finally a face to some of our members. A great group shot and nice to be able to see all of you. At last we can put faces to some of you. All of your engines are fantastic and a well deserved thank you for all of your work put forward for this event. You have truly given us a window to be there with you, thanks.

Thank you to the nice man who let my 3-year-old son turn his impecable looking aero engine prop over with his hands. Apparently when he is bigger (next week!) we are going to make one. Nothing like hitching your wagon to a star - I've only made one wobbler and that was 26 years ago with the help of my grandfather! :)

He wants his own spanners and hammer like mine now (I picked up a new Thor n°2 and set of imperial O/E spanners at the show). Not quite sure what I've started but I am quite pleased. :)

Your lucky its just one

My grand daughters informed there mother ( daughter ) that they wanted to make a engine like granddad

So two wobblers made tested and stripped down into pieces put it bags with all the tools drawings and they put them together and test run them them there is a thread on here about it

I guess I am lucky! My daughter was at a ballet exam so it was a 'boy and dad' day.

Your grand-daughters are very lucky - they got something made with care just for them. They will remember that for a long time.

I think I might need to improvise some guards round the working bits of the Drummond before he gets near it, at present it is a symphony of ungaurded whirring gears and belts just aching to eat a young finger or two!

I had a great time at the show on Sunday, meeting some very fine engineers. They were most tolerant and helpful to the tyro in their midst. I'm going to have to make something for next time! Thanks Ramon, Jo, Rod, Jason, Chris and Eric.

It was great to meet you all at the show, having followed a number of your builds over the last 6-9 months.  Many thanks to Jo for showing me the various accessories for her Cowells lathe and to hear her comments on the Cowells Milling Machine bits I had just picked up.  Her models are a credit to her.  I very much enjoyed talking to Chris and taking a close look at his models.  Thanks to Rod for the MEM mug, obviously rare and needs looking after.

It was worth the 300 mile round journey to see such a fantastic range of models, and I can only hope to be able to emulate some of your skills one day.  I have the workshop but very little time.  Currently attempting to build a pair of Elmer's Standby engines, but have three sets of Stuart castings (S50, No.9 and Half Beam) waiting patiently in the wings.

Best wishes to you all and thanks again.

Colin

Zee, Bill, Hugh and Don - glad we could reciprocate, I felt very much the same when we got to see all of you guys.

It was back to the usual routine today but lot's of 'flashbacks' - Sue and I sat in the sun with a cup of tea this afternoon reliving it all. Despite that awful drive down we were even discussing the possibility of next year  ;D

Zee - I hope you realise that all these pics were taken with you firmly in mind - not a 'Knee' in sight  ;D -  and BTW, we'll reserve you a space  ;)

Regards - Ramon

Bummer.  :'(

and BTW, we'll reserve you a space

If there is any way I can make it some year...I will be there. I've told T many times...if we're anywhere near on our next visit...I'm there.
And the foreign food is the best around.
Foreign food.  ;D
IF you know what I mean.

Thanks again everyone. Getting the pictures and seeing you all is the next best thing to being there.
Makes me wish Cabin Fever wasn't so long away.

I know the UK gets a bad rap on food...but I remember one time I was over on business and took a long walk into an out of the way neighborhood and found a pub. Best chicken I'd ever had.

I've never told T.

Bummer.  :'(

You should have seen the look on Eric's face on the Saturday morning when I didn't turn up in that skirt again :lolb: It was a bit wet, and you know how horrible tee shirts go when they get wet :ShakeHead:

Tug we will have to see if we can find you a better hotel nearer the site and a few nice places to eat  ;)

Next year we will have to see if you can get a visit to model engine heaven  :pinkelephant:

Jo - that's already under consideration   :D - coming down a day earlier seems to be a very sensible and viable option  ;)

The hotel was fine (and reasonable) but perhaps an alternative place to eat wouldn't go amiss.

I was - and still am - in the throes of some model room improvements before the weekend but now there's this strange desire to create  some ally swarf instead of wood dust  :o - wonder what's caused that?

Thanks Jason - I missed David at the show but heard from him on Monday - looks like he's going to resurrect the Super Tigre build now that the Eta has come to an end.

Just outstanding!! Beautiful engines. Thanks so much for sharing it all.
I may have missed it, but there does not seem to be any of Elmer's engines.
Is this correct? If so, I have half a mind to bring a slew of mine over there next year.

Working at my computer, the other day...... Little One, trotted in...... "I want to look at pictures, Grandad".  ::)

She sat on my knee, and I turned to p14, the list of posters. "This is what Grandad does, when he goes to a show, with his engines."  :)

Third pic down...... Surprise. "There's my engine!"   (http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/surprise/surprised-034.gif) (http://freesmileyface.net/free-surprise-smileys.html)

Fourth pic...... "That's me, that's meee. Grandad just look at me!!"  :cartwheel:

Grandma had to come and look too........

That was one more, magical moment. Thank you Jo!

I recieved the GMES Rally wash up notes this morning and we got a special mention:

Quote
Jo and her little band of people from the Model Engine Makers Forum, which is an internet based group, put on a good show and seemed to enjoy themselves.  It looks like a good idea to invite them next year.

Tug: looks like no one heard your magic words when you ran up your engines  :LittleDevil: or spotted Eric wobbling around the tent with that bottle of beer in the middle of the afternoon

Ah what a relief Jo - so my secret's safe then  ;

It's good to hear we made an impression with the powers that be ;)

I just went through the pages again to remind myself of such great time ;) - Somehow I missed this first time round

Tug, Sue, Rod, Simon, Jason, Chris, Gill, Eric & John: thanks guys for coming along, bringing your models and making it a really great weekend, I am looking forward to doing it again ;D.

Before the event (and I'm sure Chris would only be too pleased to confirm this) I had come to a decision to concentrate more on the plastic side of things as the conflict does get to me a times. Well I can tell you that that weekend had such a positive effect that it did not take long to realise that that decision was a mite flawed. Though I am currently 'distracted' it is to see a job finished but it's not for much longer  :)

Thank you Jo for all the work you put in too, I think we would all agree we all had a truly great time. Sue and I are certainly looking forwards to meeting up with you all next year that's for sure  :)

Regards - Ramon
