Friday is setup day. I always take friday off and setup. That way I get to say hello to everybody and see what's new. That's the only way I get to see everything. Cant get away from my tables on sat or sun.

Hi Stew,
I would like to write an article for you but there's a catch. As most fellows know Saturday is usually packed with people and being an exhibitor doesn't leave much time for picture taking so if I can get some good pictures along with the ones Steve Huck's wife usually takes I will compose something for you. If someone else volunteers between now and then don't hesitate to accept their offer.

I will be there, arriving in Detroit on Thursday late afternoon so I can be around the hall ll day Friday. As others have noted its gets so busy on Saturday its hard to get around to say hello to everyone. Looks like I will be alone this year, cannot get a New England group together as we have done on past years.

Look me up when you get there . This is the 25th annv. of NAMES and I have made them all so far. We
have come a long ways from the 1st two shows that were held at Dominoes Farms. I have had the privilege of meeting a lot of the early model guys that are now gone. I am getting up in years, but hope to make few more models and hit a few shows before I run out of steam.
See you all at NAMES. Here's a couple more pictures.

I did an article years ago and the editor knows a charity. I guess they use the donations to by materials to repair wheel chairs and other devices. The pieces are made in a machine shop by volunteers. I had him send me 3 copies of the magazine and the rest went to the charity. Hope it helped.

So true . Probably looked total innocent to the person applying for the domain.

Reminds me of the gal in Colorado years ago she made national news. She was apparently a fan of the Japanese food tofu .She applied for a vanity plate to tell the world of her love for tofu. The state denied her request. as it was considered offensive. the plate would have been ILUVTOFU.

It would be great if you could do something, the magazine features most of the main UK exhibitions and the odd main land European  exhibition, so a US exhibition would be of great interesting, it would also be a good way of advertising the exhibition for future years.

It makes life easier if you take a picture of the engines label first then the engine as the label will usually have all the detail that is required:- builders name, description of engine etc.

All the article will require is:- A brief introduction covering the history of the exhibition location what its about:- competitions talks etc. followed by a list of photographs Jpeg numbers and a brief description of what it shows, all can be sent over the net to the editor:- Diane Carney <Diane.Carney@mytimemedia.com>;

I can forward the magazines terms and conditions, it pays by the pages published, good for shop funds, or you can donate to a charity if so whished.

Cheers

Unfortunately Simon The Men metals and machines show was not successful enough to continue.

IIRc they did it for two maybe three years. It was in Visalia, CA circa 2004.

That would have been a shorter drive but in soca traffic maybe days LOL.

I'm planning on going this year.  Went 8 years ago when it was in Wyndotte, not Detroit. Didn't realize how far it is to drive from Chicago now, over 300 miles. Going to Chicago for some family b-days, so figured I do NAMES too :)

See if I feel like driving that far just for Sat. Hmmmmm  :D

10 hours, 5 each way, of driving is quite a bit, but I've done it more than once. I'm still deciding if I'm going this year. We were just in Detroit this weekend. I hope it doesn't cost me another windshield.

it is in Wyndotte,  Yak arena, not Detroit. Same place it was the first few years.

For me its just slightly over 1,000 miles, I have made it in about 15 hours, but this time I am going to split it into two days- hopefully stop somewhere between Rochester and Buffalo NY. Last year I went directly form York, PA to Detroit, spent a day at the Henry Ford Museum.  looking for someplace interesting to stop this time, but no ideas yet.

I arrived in Wyandotte about 2:00 Thursday afternoon, 892 miles door to door. I am at the Red Roof now, will be headed over to the arena by 9 or so. The setup looks great, lots of tables waiting for displays. Some great seminars this year- Paul Hammler, Jerry Keifer and a couple others. I will not be doing a seminar this year, but I have Mach4 on my laptop and will be happy to demo it.

Thats not fair. I looked at the photo and had no idea what it was. I used the zoom tool to get a better look. Thought it might be a tire gauge but wasn't sure yet. I followed the link to your photo album and didn't learn any more but lots of nice pictures, thanks. I decided to put both photos under the Zoom lense again and I could make out by comparing one against the other that it was a tire gauge.

Ok. Now I am going to go back to Steves post which is still sitting open and give him the answer hopefully before anybody else. First thing that I discover is there is nothing but blank space below the picture. I keep going down, down, down and finally come to some text but instead of your signature line I find that you have answered your own question. Oh well, I know that I had the right answer without cheating.

Thanks for the photos Steve. It's the next best thing to being there. :)

Jason, I can't speak for NAMES but at cabin fever there were two units similar to the one pictured below out behind the exhibition hall. These were feeding a system of iron pipe air lines which ran along the back side of the rows of exhibitor tables with taps and shut off valves every 3-4 feet or so. Literally hundreds of feet of pipe all set up before the show. There was no air on Friday, but I know the compressors ran all day Saturday and I assume Sunday too until the show closed.

The antique tether boats were cool as he!!. I took alot of pictures of the panther pups because I ordered the castings Thursday.

I took pictures right as the national anthem ended, kind of a calm before the storm and then as the crowds started to come thru the door. From 9am to 2pm it was shoulder to shoulder by my table and then it finally settled down a little.

Hi

Those are sold by Richard Daoust:

Richard O. Daoust.  Ph: 262-547-4278.  129 S. Hine Ave. Waukesha, Wisconsin 53188.  Gas engine casting kit 1/3 scale of a 1-1/4hp VJ  Monitor pump jack engine, Includes pump-jack but not the pump.

The pump has not been available for a long time, it was from a different supplier.  I got the above from the Davis modelers pages:

Bob,
The pump appears to be the one sold by Thomas Alexander, Iowa Miniature Engines, P.O. Box 123, RR3, Iowa Falls, IA 50126.
I redrew the drawings for all of Tom's kits in 1996, but I haven't spoken with him for several years so I don't know if the pump is available or not.

Well we made it home and another NAMES show is in the books. I put the last of the pictures I had into the album. There are 220 pix total. I don't know about anybody else but I had a great time and talked with hundreds of great people from this site and elsewhere around the country. Engines ran great all weekend until the last few hours when my tiny spark plugs just couldn't take any more. Casting demonstration went as well as it could go. Great weekend over all.

I forgot to take my camera! Around here that makes me a criminal I suppose.  Well, at least Steve picked up the slack.

Today I attended an excellent talk by gbritnell on model engine carburetors and watched a casting demo featuring Steve Huck.

Yes that is the one sold by Tom.  I spoke with him last summer about getting some and he said he would try.  Since then he has taken ill, and as I understand it he is out of commission for awhile.

I would like to add my thanks for all the hard work put forth to make this another great show. Saturday was non-stop for me. Sunday was slower but always is. I was asked to do a seminar this year and at first was a little apprehensive but enjoyed it very much. I hope to see everyone next year.

NAMES 2014 was a great time.  Thanks to all the NAMES crew for the great effort it takes to put on such a fine show.

Steve, thanks to you and Peggy for the photos.

I hope to see many of you at the Zanesville show in October.

Chuck

Where can one find information on the Zanesville show? That's not too far from the Baltimore area. My search found only references to shows in previous years. I think this is the main link:

Zanesville 2014 is 18 October with setup on Friday 17 October.

It is a small, but very enjoyable show.
