Okay. Who's coming with engines so I know how much table space to reserve?
As usual, I'll be there early on Friday to grab a good section of tables for MEM.
-
Stan-
I plan on coming for Saturday only. I could display "Teeny Tiny" and my Poppin. If I get sometime, I want to try and have the real small one done for C.F. I don't need much space.
-Bob
-
I'll be at the Rough & Tumble gang, but I can't wait to see what you guys from MEM bring.
6 x 7 x 24 x 60 x 60 = 3,628,800 s, but hey, who's counting? :headscratch:
Cheers,
Phil
-
I plan to get there around noon and I hope to bring:
1. My wobbler air engine that is our shop project
2. A transistor ignition controller and tachometer (TigTac)
3. A low temperature differential Stirling engine kit (hopefully assembled and running)
4. Possibly a small switched reluctance motor (SRM)
Table space about 2 ft x 2 ft should be sufficient. But I may also need space for a laptop computer if I implement the Bluetooth interface, although it might also work with a tablet. I have an Archos 7" that could be used instead.
I hope we can go to the Wild Rose for dinner afterward, although we'll probably have to wait two hours like we did last year. It's a nice place, but perhaps we could search for something with more room and less crowded.
On April 16 I'm scheduled for cervical spine surgery on my neck, so this will be my last outing for a while.
-
I'll be there on Saturday. No engines.
Haven't decided if I'll stay until Sunday.
Very much looking forward to seeing everyone.
Best wishes on the surgery Paul.
-
I'll be there Friday around noon. Staying till Sunday noon. I will need about 6 feet of space if that's doable.
Thanks,
George D. Britnell
-
I will be arriving on Thursday afternoon/evening Stan so I can help you Friday morning. I should need about 4' if possible for the Briggs, RE, PMR1, and Rudy's half scale radial.
Bill
-
Good start.
I've got the MEM banner out of storage and a stack of "Reserved for" signs waiting to be filled in.
-
Anyone else coming in on Thursday? Maybe we can get together for an informal dinner Thursday evening.
Bill
-
I plan to arrive Thursday. If I get the Muncaster engine running on air by then I'll bring it. It would take 2' of space. I should know within a week if it runs, as I have only the pistons to fabricate before assembling for a trial run. I'll be there through Sunday.
-
I plan to get there Thursday late afternoon. I like to get in and buy my button so I don't have to wait in line on Friday Morning. I will bring my ROV and hope to get it in the water. It wont be able to submerge but at least I can see it move.
I will stay through Sunday, then head toward Detroit for NAMES the next weekend. I will be stopping to see Grizzly, the DeBence Museum of Mechanical Music, and maybe another day at the Henry Ford museum. Its going to be a nice 2,000 mile road trip!
-
So is it MEM tee shirts or mugs this year :naughty:

I'm in for Thursday nite informal dinner. Although, as I recall, Bill, Steamer and I spent more time in the bar than at dinner.
-
Let's hope the bar is better stocked this year :lolb:

I think I want to go again this year! That was fun!
I could use a break anyway.
I'll start strategic planning now!

Planning? Don't you mean shoveling?
-
I will be there Friday night until Sunday, and have only my silver Bullet, possibly finished. I only need space for my elbows.
How many wives are coming?
What is the name of the motel where people are staying?
Mosey
-
Best Western on Kenneth Rd. Most if us were there.
Wives? Your lovely wife and (traditionally) Mrs. Tin Falcon. That's it until someone speaks up.
-
I am wanting to go also, had a great time last year. That could change, but I am still planning to go and will be there Saturday all day and night.
Don
-
I will be there Saturday. No engines but kid in tow.
Eric
-
I guess I'll be there in spirit, :'( due to circumstances beyond my control I will be I will be in the area the week leading up to Easter. My in-laws go to England to visit relatives, and everyone has that period of time off. On the plus side we get to hang out with mother in-law who just turned 92, my wife's brother and family get a badly needed break, and I visit Stoudts Brewery in Adamstown, Pa. :DrinkPint:. Hopefully next year scheduling will work out better. There's always NAMES the following weekend.

I plan to be there. Will be staying at the Super 8. Will get in late Thursday. I am looking forward to meeting you guys, this will be my first visit to CF.

Better be there, Don! you will be missed, and bring the better half too.

I will be coming up Thursday afternoon as well. Stan,Bill maybe dinner and :DrinkPint:. Bringing along a new item this year as well as the other usual suspects.
looking forward to see all of you.
Dave
-
Poppin? mini radial? inquiring minds want to know... :lolb:
Bill
-
Bill, I hope both but the other if alot bigger.
Dave
-
Oh a mystery engine :) Will look forward to that. Do you know if Scott is coming this year?
Bill
-
Bill
Almost 100% sure about Scott since he's now an educator at Univ of Delaware and should be free. Don't believe the shop is open on the weekend. Fred and I had an excellent tour of the Univ. shop. They had to pull me away from the HLV-H. I've never seen a complete set of 5C collets (the usual suspects plus every number size. 1-80
-
That's only the round ones, Stan.
-
So ok, y'all have me waffling :facepalm2: Well the board has met, and as long as two of you show an "interest " in purchasing our products and we can talk the White Rose into showing me their kitchen, I can call it a business trip and use the company jet. Now, y'all have me all worried since Bill said the bar wasn't well stocked. If I have to listen to Zee complain cause Lou ain't there and stay in a room with no butler or footman and have to endure shortages of alykhol, on top of waiting two hours to eat one of the best restaurant cooked meals I've ever enjoyed, well, by God, is it worth it? Vern, all I need is a case of good, really strong IPA, a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, and no employee bitches or gripes 8) I'm about 5'8", but unless y'all just need to lay me down, I won't need any table space, since all I've worked on is the Cyclone. , I'll watch the table and provide security, BTW, what are Pa. firearm laws? FYI, I don't use AP rounds, I like the soft squishy ones with the hole in the middle 8) . Now y'all light into me :lolb: :lolb: :lolb:

I count squares and hex as "usual suspects."
I've got full sets of those plus most round decimals. Hadn't ever seen number sizes (especially the whole set).

Rev
My company "Close Enuf Machine Shop" is quite interested in a recurring order of whatever it is you sell. Some of that pulled pork would work.
As far as the bar's stock, I asked for an 18 year old Glenlivit, which I'm quite sure has never been consumed in York, PA. However, a new, NASCAR themed bar/restaurant has opened next to the Best Western. That should work for Thurs and Friday with a return engagement at the White Rose on Saturday.
I'm sure they'd be thrilled to give you a kitchen tour as a member of the fraternity.
Only thing I know about PA gun laws is you can carry firearms inside your car (i.e. Going to the range.)
On your person or concealed in the trunk, requires a concealed carry permit.

Stan, if you remember the after dinner drinks they ran out of Kahlua as well to go with the Bailey's, but as noted a suitable substitute was found. :DrinkPint:
Bill
-
That too. I'm bringing both and we can do after dinner drinks at Chez Best Western

requires a concealed carry permit.

[/quote]I have one of those, for New Jersey!
-
Please don't tell me the substitute was Jager meister :lolb:. Stan do you do the to kill for espresso as well? Funny story, I was on one of my first jobs as a boiler inspector and the company sent me to Maine the week before Thanksgiving, hmmmm wonder why they sent the new kid :lolb:. I had gotten in the habit of mixing my coffee thermos really heavy with Bailey's. Well one morning the project superintendent's coffee maker was on the blitz, (read, his secretary didn't show up ) so, he raided my thermos without me knowing it. . I got a call on the radio to get to his office immediately. I went by my shack to pour me some courage and my thermos was empty, hmmmm, just had one cup so far. I walked in his office and said "what's up boss" and he said, " Can you get Betty Lou to bring us some more of that coffee like was in your thermos, damn that stuff was good . Got a good performance rating when I got outta that winter wonderland the week before Christmas too :Jester: :naughty:

Hey Earl th Pearl, thanks looks like I'm covered, since I'll be coming via private air I won't have to deal with TSA, oh wait, did the boys on the hill get them funded :lolb: :lolb: :lolb:. BTW you think Vinny and Tony ever read any of that crap, huh? :lolb: :lolb:

Be there Friday thru Sunday morning. Will be looking for MEM members.

Just look for the big MEM banner
-
Be there Friday thru Sunday morning. Will be looking for MEM members.
You'll find them. If I recall correctly, and if it hadn't been mentioned already...last year was a sign up sheet so MEM members who came by could see who's around. Great idea. I saw a couple names of members that I've seen/read on the forum but missed them somehow. Still...saw many others.
Oh yeah...maybe go ahead with the 'group picture time'. Set a time for whoever can meet and get a group shop. That was great last year too.
I think I'm most excited about this year than in the past.
-
It might be helpful to put some pictures along with the names, and maybe make some name badges. I'm pretty lousy with remembering names (and faces), unless they are displayed on forum posts. So many of you might recognize my dog Muttley, or Whiskey's D.O.G. I hope to meet him this time - he seems like a pretty cool canine.
Here's a reasonably good picture of me (and Muttley) from 2008 (we haven't changed much):

You can also look back at last year's pics from CF 2014 (thanks Stan!) and see some of the usual suspects. Pay no attention to that picture of three guys in the bar though :lolb:

Hi everyone,
I'm really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Cabin Fever!
I'll be there Saturday morning - save me a spot.
I will be bringing my finally completed Gade motor.
I actually got it fired up last weekend! Video to come later.
It still has a lot of teething pains, as most model I.C.s do.
the carb. adjustment goes from no fuel to flooded out in about 1/100th of a turn and I think my spark plug is cracked.
It only fires occasionally now. I WILL get it fixed eventually! I've been super busy with work lately, so very little shop time has been available.

Ok everyone I have met with the war department and the wife and I will be there Saturday. Since we will be flying I will have no engines to show. Looking forward to meeting more of you this year and to those that have not seen me I am posting last years photo and I haven't change much except mybe less hair.
Mosey just make sure the wife is with you mine needs someone to talk to, as she enjoyed her company last year.

Hey Don,
Where's the bottle of hot sauce? :lolb:
See you at CF, have a safe and speedy trip
Cheers,
Phil
-
I plan to bring along a box of assorted tools, materials, hardware, and some electronic parts and equipment. Maybe we can have a parking lot "swap meet" to trade things we don't need or have extras, for things we can use. For those who are flying and can't bring very much, maybe some pictures would work and then use flat rate parcels for delivery.
I have a LOT of electronic parts, probably several truckloads. Here is a link, but some items may no longer be available. Ignore the prices - I just want to find a better home than the landfill:

or

Let me know ahead of time if you are interested in any items, so I can find them. They are mostly buried in storage bins and boxes.
-
Don,
You just saved my butt, as Debby is very pleased to learn that Mickey will be there also.
See you both there.

I will be there Saturday morning.
I'm really looking forward to seeing my friends and making new ones!

That's a nice list Stan...we should be well represented. This time next week the show will be in full swing!!!
Bill
-
Stan,
Before we even get there, let me thank you for all of your efforts in getting this thing going, and especially the enthusiasm that smooths the ways. That goes for prior years and the present.
See you there Saturday.
PS. All of the valves are now nicely seated holding vacuum, so who knows, she may run.
Mosey
-
A bunch more showing up, but not showing engines. We'll have a good sized group.
Just to be clear: Showing or not, we want EVERYONE in the picture
-
Mosey
It is my pleasure.
We need to discuss valves. The Farm Boy's valves are leakier than a mesh bucket.
-
Stan, I will be with you guys this year. :pinkelephant: I will be there Thursday afternoon. I am without wife this year and I would like to come to dinner with you guys on Saturday night.
Dave
-
Dave
Absolutely dinner.
We need professional security.
-
Dave, glad to hear you will be with us this year. Maybe we can have dueling poppins or radials :)
Bill
-
I plan to get there on Thursday late afternoon. I have an engine to unload for the auction. I am staying at the Best Western.
My time will be split- I always leave my models with the New England Model Engineering Society table, and I have to spend some time supporting Mach4 and the wizards at their booth. I don't have any dinner plans yet, but will clearly eat and drink each night!
Is there a specific meeting time and place for Thursday dinner?
-
Ron
Thurs dinner. Bill Lindsey and I are at BW also. Looking for anyone to join us for dinner. Usually at one of the places next to BW.
-
Sorry guys......Not this year....
But I'll be thinking of you...and take WAY too many pictures...hopefully most of them incriminating!....

Dave

We will miss you Dave...and I'm sure there will be lots of photos, incriminating and otherwise :)
Bill
-
For those interested here is a link to one of the places next to the hotel...it was still under construction last year.
http://thelube.com/locations/pennsylvania/york/
The other close by place (close walking distance) is either an Applebees or Ruby Tuesday's (stan may remember which).
Bill
-
Stan,
I'll be there and displaying 4 engines.
I'm planning on arriving Friday mid morning. I'll be staying the next town over at my brother's place.
See you there!
Phil
-
Bill, The poppin is complete but not running you. I have not got the Radial out of timeout yet. Maybe I can get to done over the weekend.
looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
Dave

Now y'all are making me all jealous. I have a very dear friend that is having a very hard time health wise and has requested that I personally prepare the food for his 70th birthday on that Saturday night. Normally I would have said that I was going to be out of town, but, it's so serious there could very easily not be a 71st, so, I'm cooking. I am going to miss all of you guys and was looking forward to meeting some of the greats that have said they were coming this year. For those that didn't attend the Saturday night dinner at the White Rose last year, all I can say is don't miss it this year. I make my living with food and their's ranks with some of the best I've ever had (and the scenery ain't bad either 8)) Maybe y'all could send Zee over a little early to work his suave and persuading ways ( Lou says they are good, just not as good as mine :lolb:), so you don't have as long of a wait Vern, just make sure you get someone that knows how to take a picture :lolb: :lolb:, cause I would like one to frame and hang in the shop . Bill, I know you are going to miss spending my money, but, I may be able to do something about that :naughty:. . Mosey, I ain't gonna be there to keep you straight and you keep an eye on old Don, he'll have you in the crawfish, boudin, and metal polishing business :Jester:. Damn, I am gonna miss this . Oh yeah, would someone just get me George Britnell's autograph ;). Have fun guys, I'm gonna miss y'all..

Autograph? I was going to mail this to you but now I'm going to have every MEM at Cabin Fever autograph it. Then I'll mail it

Maybe y'all could send Zee over a little early to work his suave and persuading ways ( Lou says they are good, just not as good as mine :lolb:)
Out of respect to you buddy, I was holding back. :naughty:
No holds barred now. Too bad we, that is, she's, got to wait a year.
Just as well though. There's a chance T is coming along and I'll be busying working my suave and persuading ways...to stay out of trouble.
I suspect she won't though. I do believe I hear her mumble something like "what the hell am I thinking?".
If the reservation took...I'll be at Best Western and will be joining everyone for Saturday night vittles 'n' beverages.
I'll be there at 3 for the family picture.

Dave and Eric-

Aw now y'all done got me all wet...........eye'd :lolb:. Vern, the shirts would have went well with the bowler  . I love the autograph idea, will wear it , not wash it , until it is just suitable for framing, as in greasy, grimy, and crusty. Zee, go ahead and use them where they will do you some good ( i.e.get your friends a table) and if that don't work, let T at them, you don't ever argue with her and I'm sure they won't either. Vern, ain't no way you and Professor Leroy can drink enough Baston Lahgah ;) to cover Steamahs paht ;)
Cletus
-
The dinner at the White Rose was definitely excellent, but the two-hour wait was excruciating for me, so I vote for something like Appleby's where seating might be a lot quicker. 8)
Whiskey, I was looking forward to perhaps sampling some of your BBQ and beans, as well as meeting DOG, but I understand the importance of making time for an old friend. Maybe next year...
-
Paul, if the good Lord is willing the Whiskey and DOG food trailer will be back in service at the campground next year, I think he's missing his vacation (and blindsey' ear scratching) too. I'm sorry dinner was so painful. I was surrounded by good friends, cold beer, shots to the rim, pretty women, and great conversation, the great food was just icing on the cake. I guess I am just an old road dog: " it ain't the destination, it's the journey I treasure "
Cletus
-
Agree. The whole evening was exceptional.
Sorry, Paul. For our once-a-year gathering, I'm totally in for The White Rose.
-
Zee, Mosey and I's wives will be there. They are planning to go to the mall so if yours wants to join them.
Thanks Don. T is not a mall person :cartwheel: but I'll put it to her. In fact, for some time she hated to shop. :cartwheel: But then the internet came. Now I recycle what seems to be tons of cardboard. :cussing:
let T at them, you don't ever argue with her

-
I suggest we let the wives decide what they want to for themselves. Mine is happy that there will be 2 others, leave it alone.
She isn't a shopper either.
Eric and Dave are already sorry they aren't gonna be there. And so am I. Anyhow, the wives can help carry all the stuff we're gonna buy. Here that Eric? More castings!
I vote for the White Rose.

CF AUCTION LISTING
This is only a list of things that have been pre-listed. Most rolls in on Friday
http://www.auctionzip.com/Listings/2333467.html
-
Hi Stan, it seems that it is necessary to visit CF with more than the budget for travelling and accommodation only.
Thanks for the link. I wish you and all the other members of MEM some enjoyable days. Have a lot of fun.
-
Since I may be the closest member to CF in York, I may be able to help by being able to have some larger items loaded onto my truck and then stored at my place for later pickup or arrangement for transportation. I'll just have my little Saturn at the show Saturday but it would not be a major effort to return on Sunday to pick up some items. I don't really need any more or larger machines, and don't plan to buy any, but the "iron heart" knows what it wants and may see something irresistable. Basically, I.m just saying that I live nearby, have a (small) truck, and should be available on Sunday to help in any way that is reasonable. This will be my "last hurrah" before some down time for my surgery, and I'm glad to make it memorable and useful if needed.
-
Achim
Well, there's always the castings budget
-
I find that the castings budget is only limited by the number of desirable castings that can be found to buy :mischief:
Jo
-
The last castings I bought at CF were already machined and assembled and appear to be an Oliver S4 die filer.
Then one also needs a Starrett ½" micrometer budget.
-
Let's see, a tiny manual shaper, Swiss Schaublin or Hauser watchmakers drill press, UPT, mag vise, stubby drill set, more W-12 and W-20 collets, books, old Starrett collectible useless hand measuring devices, universal dividing head for F3, and the like, you know trivial little accessories. Just thinking.... :help: :help:

Downside...T won't make it. It's supposed to be a good weekend and gardening is priority. :(
Upside...T won't make it. There won't be any eyes on me and I won't be available to help garden. ;D

You could lie to her and tell her they have a garden area with wine and cheese tasting, just a thought :LittleDevil: seriously if anyone is looking for a good side trip, the watch and clock museum is great, ask Steamer

Send her to help T with the gardening.

I am very bad at that or she is very good at detecting that...either way the result is the same. No more machining...or anything else for me.
And a fib is just as deadly. ::)

I've been here in York for 2 days. Went to Gettysburg yesterday an the battlefield auto tour with a CD guide. I can loan the CD to anyone who wants to visit.
Today I'm visiting the industrial museum downtown, and tomorrow either the clock museum or the Penn RR museum.
Thursday morning is for the Harley factory tour.
For anyon into model electric trains there's a store on Market street dedicated to that. Looked interesting when I walked by.

You will enjoy the Harley tour kvom. Did that several years ago and very much enjoyed it.

I hit that penn. rr museum last year, great place! Took a ton of pictures of engine detail.

For those that may not be following crueby's shay project build log, Bob (90LX_Notch) posted about next year's CF show being moved back to January and to a different location. I asked where he had heard it and he said from the HSM bbs. Below is a quote from George Bullis (Village Press) posted on the HSM bbs:
20th Annual Cabin fever Expo
Lebanon Valley Expo Center
January 15-17, 2016
This is very disappointing news indeed!!

I wonder what the reason is for this change.
Maybe the York location raised the rent?
I remember previous shows at the Lebanon location-I thought it was a good venue.
I did kind of like the January shows, but the weather can be an issue.
I guess we'll have to go with the flow......

I'll have to enjoy all of the good camaraderie this year, as I don't think Lebanon in January is good for me.

With cabin fever back to January i might now be able to go. Maybe even bring a few things to show. With the two shows being just weeks apart it would tough to get the time away from work not to mention the very long weekends that close can be exhausting. I now have hopes of making it someday.
-
Just got this reply to a PM.
Hey Stan,
Yes that is correct. We planned on making the announcement at the show. We gave a little early notice to vendors yesterday. We are excited about change back to January. We'll also be moving to the much expanded Lebanon Expo Center. See you soon.

Remember, CF was in January for 16 years.

True for you flat landers, but for those of us in the hills of Pensyltucky, the snow becomes a real concern. Driving up 81 through Wilkes Barre and Scranton when it's snowing is not any fun. What will really kill it for me is the kids' swim season is in full swing that time of the year.

Wilkes Barre and Scranton are in the Pocono Mountains last I looked. Whole different weather.

Yes it's different weather and I unfortunately have to deal with it in order to go to CF. I go down and back in one day; so if it's calling for snow I have a lot of driving in it. But, more then likely the dates will conflict with a swim meet anyway.

Well by God, here's my bitch, no RV, no DOG, no beans ,no BBQ, and no chance of a group gathering in the warm spring sun under the awning. I'm sorry, but, to me it kinda seems like having " spring break" in February, in the Poconos. I know it was in January for years, but, there had to be a "bottom line" decision that made them change it in the first place and I'm betting it's one again. Perhaps, Professor Leroy, we should seriously explore the possibility of a new Southern show, the head bean counter said I should seriously consider loosing a few business bucks this year, but, if I just fed all of Y'ALL I'd still at least break even. :lolb:. I thought that was what "cabin fever" meant, been locked in all winter and now it's time to roar, not, oh its the middle of winter, let's dash through the snow to a ME show. Ok, tell Zee I'm headed to the jelly jar ;)

Before you folks complain too much, have a bit of sympathy for us poor sods out here on the west coast.
Back in ~2003 Jared and Gary organized the "Men, Metal and Machines" show in Visalia, CA. Many of our club members and I attended and exhibited. Located in a farming area, the show seemed to attract a good number of locals as well as gearheads from the California population centers.
Sadly, the show was canceled after the third year due to "poor attendance" according to Gary.
We're left with GEARS in Portland but that's a whole lot of driving if you live in LA or San Diego.
-
Well for the organizers this is a pseudo business after all. Just like our October antique engine show, if we break even or make a little money or cover our insurance for the year we are pretty happy, but neither do we charge admission or have to pay for the venue so that simplifies things greatly! I suspect this boiled down to a business decision also...venue rent went up or something else...and I can appreciate if this is all they can do to keep the CF show alive. That's far better than the alternative even if some of us don't like the date change. I will certainly go again once I don't have a job to schedule around, weather permitting.
Cletus, I know SC is probably as far from you as York, PA, but I am hoping this new little show down here can grow some. At some point I would be happy to help organize this or another show, but again 2-3 years down the road for me due to work. TO put on something like CF, even without the auction part of it is a huge undertaking.

Huge :lolb:
At GMES we have "the book" put together by my fellow female model engineer at the club who found the traditional haphazard/too often failing/lots of stress method of organising a show wasn't for her. So she captured for each month what had to be done, who to contact for what and the anticipated costs. Each year they just have to keep it up to date and the first action starts immediately after we close the show the year before. We have a full time committee for organising the show alone ;)

I was very happy with the York location because it is very close to me, about an hour's drive, but Lebanon is still within a couple hours, so it's not a deal-killer or major problem. However, the weather could be an issue, and as climate change worsens, as we have experienced the last couple of years especially, it can be very nasty in January. I don't much like driving in snow and ice or even when the threat of such conditions is present, so I won't take the risk if there's a significant chance.
I am also concerned about such a change of venue as a possible harbinger of diminishing attendance and eventual discontinuation of the show altogether. That has happened with the Timonium Hamfest, which I usually attended about this same time each year for perhaps 20 years, and originally it was two full days, with a huge outdoor flea market / tailgate, and several buildings packed with vendors and attendees. But in the last five years, the outdoor portion dwindled and everything moved indoors, and last year it was scheduled only for Saturday, and only partially filled one building. Attendance was minimal, and the vendors seemed increasingly old and "tired", and the items they were selling were of greatly decreased interest and value. I have always enjoyed buying electronic components and equipment there, but my newer projects are much better served by purchasing from distributors like Mouser, or getting them on eBay.
The biggest attraction IMHO has been meeting some of the vendors and attendees and talking to them, and often renewing contact with old friends. That was a great loss, and I'm not really into Ham Radio so the local clubs don't have much interest for me. I can understand the financial decision to shut it down, but there were other factors that might have made it less profitable. The show is supposed to run until 5:00, but usually I would get there about 2:00 or so, and many vendors were already closing up and getting ready to leave. Also, many times the entry gate was no longer manned, and I just walked in free. If they continued the show into the evening, it may have attracted another wave of people, and would not disappoint late-comers.
I enjoy the hobby of model engine building, but mostly as a way of learning more about machining and engines of various types. My main interest is in electronics and EVs, and although there is machining involved, it is much different from that required for ICEs and steam engines that are the mainstay of MEM. I enjoy the challenge of designing and building a unique engine such as I'm now trying to complete, but I think the novelty will soon wear off, and I am not really smitten by the desire to tackle other similar projects. The social aspect is important to me, and I enjoy seeing the wide array of models, but I'm more interested in the few electrical motors and generators shown there, and even more in the machines and tooling that can be purchased.
Perhaps some of us can discuss this decision, and the future of such shows, and the hobby itself, with the show organizers, and maybe come up with alternate venues and dates that may help assure the continuation of this major event. I think we should be involved in some way with the decision, and I think it was not right that they did this without advance notice or input from the attendees and exhibitors and the various clubs and forums that support this hobby and hopefully encourage its growth.

I hate to say it but I strongly disagree. As Gary from Cabin Fever and Mike from NAMES are laying out all the cash, they need all the say. My feeling is, tell me when and where and lay out the rules and then I'll tell you if I can make it. If they ask my opinion I'll surely give it and I have been asked. They need the freedom to things there way.
"We", unless involved in organizing the event, don't see the big picture of insurance, venue rental, tables, piping for air, and the list never ends. I say we cut old Gary some slack as it is his show.
Just sayin.
Ok, let me have it.
-
Well said Steve. 100% agree.
A few hours ago we learn of a date change for CF and people are already predicting its demise.
It seemed to grow into what it is today with January dates for years.
Let's just enjoy it. If u can come: great. If not: not
-
Steve, I agree with you I can't imagine the outlay of money and manpower to make this happen. I hated when the show changed to April but found that it was nice to hang outside in the warm weather. I guess we will have to get cold again. Long live Cabin Fever
Dave
-
I agree with Steve. It's not for us to determine. It's nice that the show even exists for the model engineering community. When I was into the car racing scene I use to laugh at the guys who would want a class created that fit their combination rather than build a car for a class. I never understood that mentality.

Hey Guys,
As it's somewhat difficult to contact many of the attendees and visitors (We send out emails, Please if you'd like to get updates on the show, please visit our home page and sign up!), we gave our vendors the following heads up (Removing some booth pricing information, email us if interested - We'll have limited amount of single vendor tables in 2016):
"We are now only days from the 19th Annual Cabin Fever Expo and it should be a great year. There has been much interest, we have a nice seminar schedule, and we hope you are as excited as we are!
We wanted to take a moment and contact our Vendors who are currently supporting us and have in the past to give a first *Heads Up* to some changes for 2016. It's discussed every year that the costs are always on the rise and as most will surely agree, it's not easy right now. We have been exploring a few options for a change and after MUCH consideration and discussion, the 20th Annual Cabin Fever Expo will be returning to January AND Lebanon Expo Center.
Jokes and comments have been made since our change to April that it's just not Cabin Fever anymore. Truthfully, we've shared some of these feelings as well. We are not upset about the April move we made, but we think many can agree that there is just A LOT going on as spring is breaking and it competes for everyone's time. We all have yards or spring cleaning to tend to after the long winter, various other type shows starting back up, and just a lot more activity in April than January. So for that reason, we are getting back to our roots and what made us CABIN FEVER at the time when we all need a break in the winter. The dates for 2016 are January 15-17, 2016.
With this date change, we are also moving to Lebanon Expo Center (80 Rocherty Rd. Lebanon, PA 17042). Obviously a lot has changed with the show since we were last in Lebanon, but the same is true for their grounds. The Lebanon grounds that most remember has well over doubled in size boasting essentially the same usable square footage as the current York location. There are more "rooms" than York which allows for some different booth and exhibit setups than our current floor plan which we feel will work out nicely.
We have had great luck working with Lebanon in the past and we are excited to work with them again. We've mentioned the costs ever-growing in York and it is harder now than ever to get any help from them. Lebanon is willing to work with us however they can to help make the show an ongoing success. This includes some help should there be a weather event (a big reason we had decided to move to April!). There are a few new and renovated hotels and restaurants in the nearby area, it's only a short drive to Hershey with many hotel/food options, and Lebanon County is excited to bring the event in. We hope you'll agree with our decision and continue or come back to help support this great hobby.
Many will be on their way now or soon, so safe travels and looking forward to seeing you all.
The Cabin Fever Crew,
Gary, Jared, Joan, & Jen Schoenly"
We fully understand that there was going to be some for and some against the changes for 2016. We freely discuss the costs and work that goes into this show every year with anyone that wishes. We spend A LOT of time and effort bringing it all together and for the live and love of the hobby, we hope we can continue for a long time to come. We want to make sure the it's clear, the move back to Lebanon is not a step back. We were there years ago and outgrew the grounds, but they now offer the same square footage as York and are much more willing and excited to work with us. We have discussed other locations (Philly Expo Center in Oaks, PA, Fort Washington, etc) but the costs as you get closer to a large city are even harder to swallow. I can assure everyone that a lot of thought has been put into this and we expect some hiccups for the first year back there and in Jan, but we feel it's for the best and are excited for the future.
If anyone wants to discuss further directly with me or Gary, feel free to PM me and We are happy to discuss ideas. And for those attending in a few days, feel free to talk to us. We'll be quite busy but will be happy to talk about ideas. But it is a definite the information on the change is correct. We'll have flyers at the show and more available for the year if people would like to hand them out at other venues.
Thanks for the support and making the show and hobby what it is. We look forward to seeing everything this weekend! For those of you on multiple forums, please feel free to cross post, I really appreciate the help passing the word. We hope everyone has a great weekend attending or not!
-
No doubt a tough decision. Economics being what they are, competition for such venues (places) is only going to get harder and more expensive as the economy improves.
But I'm in! This is a great show, particularly with the chance to see so many people (and vendors) that I can only interact with on-line.
Whatever it takes to keep it going!
I really appreciate (and understand to some degree) what goes into it.
I hope (and expect to some degree) to see you all (i.e. my forum friends) again next year. ;D
In the meantime...let's have a blast this year.
-
Gary, Jared, Joan, & Jen Schoenly,
Believe me when I say from my experiences talking to past Expo show exhibitors and vendors that we' re very appreciative of your efforts to bring this show together for us in the model engineering community. I'm looking forward to this years show as well as those in the future wherever they may be held.
Cheers,
Phil

Jared, many thanks for your dedication to the show and for taking the time to explain what went in to this decision. Things change for all of us at times, and while the January dates (which I have also attended previously) aren't great for me at the moment, I also wish the show to continue and it gives me one more reason to look forward to in retirement when travel dates aren't a personal constraint due to the day job !!
I am looking forward to a great show as always this year!!

Thanks for the detailed explanation of the change (back) to the original location. I went to a "Gourd Craft Show" there last year with my friend who is into gourds or maybe "out of her gourd", and it was not a bad drive from Hagerstown, where we were staying at the KOA, and it's probably about the same, or less, from Baltimore. I don't recall how large the place was, and although it seemed small, it was probably just one of many rooms and buildings. So we'll just hope for good weather and look forward to meeting again only 9 months from this one coming up. Here is a rough video of the gourd expo and some of the scenery on the ride back:

Went by the arena and saw where ME had table space reserved. Good spot for keeping track of the auction .
I'll be over in the am to set up.

We got George Britnell's engines safely in place. Makes you want to give up after seeing them. KVOM said that George's engine boxes are nicer than his (KVOM's) engines.
Lots of pix tomorrow from Bill and I. Probably from others as well.
We're about to stroll across the parking lot to the bar then dinner.

Yeah, just go on out and get all liquored up first. We'll sit here and twiddle our thumbs and wait on some pictures, thanks goodness y'all took them first or they would probably require beer goggles for proper viewing, kinda like 3D :lolb: :lolb: Y'all knew I wasn't gonna cut you any slack :facepalm2:
