Title: Making a desk plaque
Post by: galland on December 14, 2017, 02:29:57 PM
I was recently digging through one of those boxes tucked away in the basement that we have put things in many years ago. I pulled out 3 aircraft belt buckles that I bought roughly 30-35 years ago that had never been used and never will. They are WW2 and one was a B-25. The EAA in Osh Kosh is in the process of restoring a B-25 now and has been using volunteers to help work on it for months now. A retired friend of mine has been up there 5 times helping and is going to go back for more. Well a lightbulb went on in my head. As you can see this was not much of a machining job other than I did find out belt buckles are not precision made. This one was 1/32 taller on one end and had a bad twist in it but putting it between balsa wood I milled it even and used a press to straighten it out. I am having a nameplate made to go below the buckle on the angle.

Great job. I hope we have enough of us old farts around to see that at least a few of these old birds remain flying and are honored with work such as this

Galland,
Good work with the brown stuff, looks great. I am probably no that far off his path to Oshkosh. I've been to the EAA show a few times and the museum a few more. I have a great interest in aircraft engines. Great to see one of the old birds restored.
