I would like some feedback on my latest brainstorm. I have painted my Rob Roy locomotive and am in the process of putting it back together. I am contemplating using teflon for some of the steam gaskets. It occurred to me that non-stick oven liner might work. I purchased a piece 23"x16" for $6 at the local box store. It is 0.008" thick and rated for 500 deg. F. It has a fine mesh surface. It cuts very easily with a cheap gasket punch set and does not tear easily. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this??

Never thought of using that type of material. Does it have any 'give' to it, will it be able to compress more in some areas than another to make a good seal? If it is too stiff the mesh surface could cause leaks, but if it will compress a bit it should be good. Be interesting to see how it works out.
