The Bridgeport forum started using this site for its member map.
Never being one to avoid stealing a good idea, I thought we could give it a try.
Here's the link
https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=923270&add=1
Click on "additions" in the top menu and "Add Marker - Simple". The more detailed the location you type in, the closer to your location the pin wiill drop. It can be relocated, if necessary, by clicking on your pin and using the 2d icon at the bottom right of the "pin info" block.
I've added my pin to get us started. I'm going to have my iPad at the MEM table. We'll watch for pins to appear.
-
Excellent idea Stan ... I am on there now.
Cheers,
Tom
-
Added myself now also. So how are we going to keep this assessable to the membership?
Bill
-
I'm on there now.
Jo - I don't know how accurate yours is, but I just spent the weekend half way between Alton and Selbourne.
-
I don't live in the middle of the pond where I positioned the marker ;) but it is within 10 miles of the house.
You could have dropped in .

A ? though, is Zeeprogrammer spending his time building zeemaps instead of making swarf? :lolb:
gerrit

I added me, too!
Chuck
-
I wondered the same thing gerrit :) I am sure he will have something to say soon :lolb:
Great idea Stan....the map is populating rapidly now!!!
Bill
-
Also added to the map :atcomputer:
-
I can find my own way home now :)

I'm in! :)

Hi, I'm on. Ian S C
-
call me a grumpy old man :old: but I think I will refrain thats a little bit to much info to be placed on line linked to pics we have all put up as to the contents of the WS ect.
I am happy to give a general location in the sig but not down to the level that map can and does give
I would have thought that if all the members gave there country and town that would be enough to enable answers that are geographic related e.g. electrical and boiler codes to quote a couple
Stuart
-
Hi Stuart,
I agree with you on exact address. I just did city. So my pin isn't where I live. Its just at the center of the city.
I think a lot of people are doing that.
Kim
-
I would be Ok with that if thats OK
Stuart
-
Perfect, Stuart.
I'm working on setting a password. I'll let you know
-
Wonderful idea!
Mosey
-
I've turned off the display of street address. Only City, state, county, region, galaxy, etc. should display even if you put in a street address.
-
Thanks for that Stan
I have dropped pin in our town at a random point
Stuart
-
I must be doing something wrong, it wouldn't let me add my location. I registered and signed in but have no map access to put my location in. Can anyone help here?
Don

I don't live in the middle of the pond where I positioned the marker ;) but it is within 1/2 mile of the house.
You could have dropped in .
Jo
Haha well ditto. The inlaws live there on the Lavender Farm, we visit quite a lot.
I think I might be jealous of all your engines!!
-
A ? though, is Zeeprogrammer spending his time building zeemaps instead of making swarf?
If I had...there would be certain additional restrictions. ;D
I've apparently screwed up and can't get in. Thought I'd been here before and tried logging in.
Instead I registered with an empty password.
Asked to reset it but the reply was...my password is empty. Duh.
Sent off request to their support.
-
I didn't register or sign in...just clicked on the add marker button and it worked. Maybe I got lucky...lol
Bill
-
Hmm, I can't add a marker; it wants a password. :(
Simon
-
Stan must have set a password then as he mentioned on page two. I am sure he will let us know what it is. I see that the map title now reflects the forum name as well and he mentioned making a few changes in how things show up, etc. I probably added mine before he did that.

Don I put in all the info but when I got to select Country the United States was
not listed seems I need help too!!
-
I'm asked for a password ....
-
I'm asked for a password ....
me too.
-
I must be way off.
Why are some of you talking about entering a country?
I got my password reset and can log in...but when I try 'Additions->Add Marker Simple' it asks for a key (password) which I think is the password I use to log in (?), name, and location. Then I get an 'authentication' failure.
There's also a 'description box'.
Am I not on the correct screen? Did I miss a post with instructions?
:cussing: This is one of those technology things that really turn me off. It should not be hard. :cussing:
Not that I 'need' this...but I was really wanting a 'lilac' marker. ;D
Oh yeah...crap.
-
Sorry. The password (key)is mapmem. No need to register or sign in. It asks for the key when you add a marker/pin.
-
OK .....I'm in!
Dave
-
I'm in also!

Okay I'm in. And I got my lilac!!! :whoohoo:
I put my city in. Probably shouldn't have...and it's not needed. But hey...I'm easy to find. There's not many of me.
-
I'm on it - east of the lilac ()
Cheers,
Phil

kinda lonely down here...
Saludos

kinda lonely down here...
But not on the forum! ;D
-
I'm in too! The blue one up north of New York/Vermont...
Cheers, Joe
-
I'm in there now. My first try (detailed) somehow didn't take, but the "simple" version (where I just clicked on the map location) worked a treat. So far I am the closest member to the Cabin Fever expo in York. 8)
-
Looks like for now Kim and I have the whole North West US to ourselves.
Dave
-
Who is the anonymous guy in Philly?
-
Hey, if you lived that close to lilac guy wouldn't you be anonymous too? :LittleDevil:
Oops, my bad, I'll need to correct that
Cheers,
Phil

It's interesting to actually see a map of the geographic distribution of members. Pretty cool. 8) :smokin2:

I saw that. Yet another one to add to my list. ;D
Pretty soon I can start an identical forum in another dimension.
[Edit] Just saw your post Jim. It is pretty cool. Thanks Stan for bringing this up.
I like how there's common threads across the world.
-
And by my count there are only 36 pins on the map so far. Lots more to go which should make the geographic distribution even more interesting. Many thanks to Stan for finding this and getting it set up for us.
Bill
-
I'm in too. Put my marker somewhere in the city,
cheers
Bill

Got mine on there.
-
I'm in as well.

I am in now too. The lonely blue flag in the middle of good old Europe.

Hi Achim,
now I stepped in too - you're no longer lonely ;)
So long

I'm the orange (and only) one in Tasmania
cheers
Mark

... and I'm the blue button in NSW

I'm in, but how do I delete a (my) misplaced marker. :facepalm2:
-
Me too! It's getting positively crowded down here!
Cheers Kerrin
-
I'm on now too, my pin landed straight on a cafe.
I'm in, but how do I delete a (my) misplaced marker. :facepalm2:
If you click on your pin a small window should come up. At the bottom right of that you can either click 'displace', 'relocate' or 'trash'
Nicolas
-
I would be in if I could ::) After several attempts over two days just keep getting the same result
I've registered and click on 'simple addition'. Filled in the relevant details then on 'Submit' get a enter key or password - is that different to the password when registering if so 'where the hell is it!'
It says 'or click on map' if I hover over UK I get a pointer telling me who's already 'in' or a hand to pan the map.
Awww - how I hate these bloody things at times
Can anyone help
Ramon
-
Hi Ramon,
I had the same problem. The following from Stan did it for me...(bears repeating as it gets lost with all the replies)
Sorry. The password (key)is mapmem. No need to register or sign in. It asks for the key when you add a marker/pin.
Go to Additions->Add Marker Simple.
Type in 'mapmem' for the key.
Anything in the name field (like Ramon).
General location (city, country) or use that 'click on the map'.
Press 'submit'
Hope that helps.
-
Ramon
When you get the entry box for adding a simple marker, it has a space for a key/password. Enter "mapmem" there, then your name and location and it should work.
If it doesn't, let me know.
-
Thanks Zee and Stan - easy when you know how ;) all sorted
-
This is a great bit of fun. Do we need to put a sticky somewhere with the link and password (for registered members only)?
Rod
-
Rod, I would suggest that it be placed as a sticky not at the top of the "Introduce Yourself" section with the subject line Member Map. As for restricting the password registered members, I agree with you but will have to defer to one of the admins to see if there is a way to do that.
Bill
-
Doesn't seem to work for me.
...lew...
-
Directions worked for me. I think someone with a really strong arm could hit my house from my map pin location but don't you dare.
Alan
-
I am in, used middle of town.
Steve
-
I', also in now. Took a while to find the password though.
Seems I am the first in Sweden.

I'm in too, but somehow I called myself 'tha' instead of 'ths'. Can't seem to change it, so I guess I'll just have to have an alias alias.
Hugh.

Hugh.
I think if you delete it you can then make a new one. If you click on your pin and then click on the 'trash' you should be able to do it again (I think) :)
Nicolas
-
Thanks Nicolas, something seems to have worked.
Hugh.
-
well it was easy so I'm added
Pete
-
I am added, first in the Netherlands.
Thought there where more guy’s from the Netherlands.
Tjark.
-
Another one from down under in the mix.
-
Well, someone thinks Portugal is a part of Spain  Anyway, I´m in the Member Map.
-
I seem to have 2 pins. \I thought the first had not 'taken' but repeated the addition. Now I cannot remove either, when I click on the either pin I only get a from here to here option. No other options at all.
What am I doing wrongly?
Jerry

HI All,
Just a few words of caution. Those of you that have mobile phones with camera's built in and that have GPS enabled should be aware that the GPS information is embedded in any photographs that you take. If you take a picture at your home, that picture can be used to not only discover where you are but also who you are !
Whilst this map idea is attractive and does show the geographic distribution of MEM members, consider carefully the information you place there.
-
Best put a location but not too accurate ;).
Most of us are on different continents so the odd few miles out makes no difference
Jo
-
Mine, for example, is within 10 km of my actual residence - that's a pretty big circle to search for those with evil intent.
-
To prove a point to my daughter I took a picture she emailed me and loaded it into Irfanview, an excellent, free-download photo manipulator.
Clicking on the Info tab, I was offered the option of showing the location at which the photo was taken on Google maps. It did so very precisely.
Another reason to detest cell phones. [I'm on volume 3 now.]
-
My soon to be daughter in law works for Police intelligence and the things they can learn from cell phones is astounding
-
Looks like the Eastern States of the land of Oz are well represented, don't we have any Oz members in Qld or W.A.?
If you zoom in on me then love the lake, going fishing, they're on the bite :P

Perhaps that's why some call them cell phones. In Oz, because we're such a law abiding mob, they are known as mobiles.
Best Regards
Bob

We do, but they are being shy or something.
-
Some of you seem to be very wary of saying where you live (the actual address) or placing the 'pin' within a couple of meters where you reside.
Is it you are up to something we shouldn't know about? :lolb:

Were is that map?? Cant find it.
