Here are a few pics of my latest project from a design by Antony mount, there are castings available but i chose to make from stock as i already had a flywheel. It's been an interesting project and the first where i got a govenor to operate. I was going to paint much of it but loved the look of shinny metal so left it bear. I blackened the screws and got some small ceramic tiles for the base from a dolls house supplier on ebay. My aim was to get it to run as easy as possible so i used ball bearings where possible and it runs well on just 1psi air.

Beautiful! I really like the color combinations. Very sharp.
Is there a video? ;D

Beautiful job Geoff and a nice runner. It is on my list as my next engine build. I like.......... :praise2:

Beautiful work Geoff...especially all the detail on the top end!!

That looks great Geoff :praise2:
Kind regards, Arnold

That is an impressive build, Geoff . I love the color combinations and agree that painting it would be a shame. I had looked at the Polly Model Engineering site for a possible new build and had overlooked this model until seeing yours caused me to rethink that. I just sent them an email for costs on that kit delivered to Alabama. Beautiful work!

That is quite impressive Geoff. Are those red and black tiles in the base?

You did a beautiful job on this engine Geoff! I can see why you didn't want to cover up the shiny!
I'd love to see a video of it running, if you care to share that with us.

That is indeed very well done and I agree totally with the no painting.

totally awesome Geoff and amazingly smooth at such low rpm's. Well done indeed!!

Hi Geoff, a very nice engine. I like this very slow movement very much
-
That's georgeous Geoff! I love the slow action there.
Does it run fast enough that the govener ever kicks in? :)
Kim

Beautiful!
It's nice to see how smooth and slow it runs.

Thanks for all the kind replys guys
here's a bit more about the govenor which i was a bit unsure about because my engine is a bit different to the plans, after a bit of thinking i dived in and came up with this solution. when i just had the govenor and no linkage connected i found when a certain speed was reached the balls flew out and stayed there untill the engine speed was quite slow and this seemed to make sence with the centrifugal force applied. But when i had added the linkage the weight of it made the action more progressive. The thottle valve is simple with a 1.4mm hole drilled thru a rod which is turned by the govenor link to misalign the holes, the pic shows how to go about setting it up while the engine runs, a small hole in the backnut shows the position of the valve and i have stuck a drill in there so i can see its position and lock it in suitable place. you can decide yourself when you want it to cutoff, it does work but the video i did was a bit shaky trying to hold the camera and play with the air control

That's really neat, Geoff! Thanks for taking the time to explain your control mechanism. :)

When I was building this engine I had to make a few compromises as I decided to use a cylinder I had already made and also the base had to be made differently as I wasn't using castings, I was very pleased with the finished result but you do have that feeling it should have been better. so I decided to do some of it again to see if I could improve it. So here is my second attempt, I like the idea of the pipework going into the base and I've used smaller tiles, not sure about the colours though.
