Post by: mackye on November 24, 2013, 03:26:56 AM
hi all,

i began building this engine quite a while back starting a thread over on HMEM (this one to be exact http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/f36/metal-steam-engine-14234/index3.html ), but many things including my final year of uni and a thesis got in the way. well im happy to announce that i have finally completed it and have it running.

i dont have a whole lot of photos showing the individual components but if anyone is interested id be more then happy to take some shots and give more detail for any part.

Wow  8) I just had a wander through your collection of photos of the build on Photosuckit. You even made all your own castings

mackye,
Is your engine based on the C.W. Woodson verticle from Popular Science? Nice job! I.m getting ready to make patterns for one myself.

thank you everybody for your replies, it certainly means a lot to have such experienced model builders complement my engine!!  ;D .

Chuck, this guy wasnt based off of anything initially and all of its parts and dimensions were of my own design, but id have to say it does remind me of the stuart engine smfr built... D10 maybe????

Jo, the casting aspect of this was my initial draw towards the build but it is a much more time consuming means of going about it and time in my shed is one thing i dont have of at the moment, moved out of home and left my workshop behind at my fathers place. so ended up using alot my bar stock then id have liked; for example i really would have liked to have a cast cylinder head instead of the castiron one from round stock but, my skills were/are still very low and it turned out to be the better option as i learnt a whole lot more from it then i would trying to use my own castings.

David, for now my next project is going to be a little flame licker i started at some point mid way through the steam engine build when i got frustrated with the slow progress i was having with it. id be happy to start a thread for it but im so hopeless at taking photos and even finding time to get back to the workshop of a weekend is getting harder so content would be few and far between. this is a quick snap of the cylinder though (http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af324/mackye/IMG_31781.jpg) (http://s1020.photobucket.com/user/mackye/media/IMG_31781.jpg.html).
