Title: Churchill Redman Cub MkII Lathe
Post by: RayW on February 14, 2015, 11:54:49 AM
This is the 1943 lathe on which I built my Westbury Wyvern engine. Apparently, some of these were supplied to the Royal Navy for use in submarines! I was given the lathe and masses of tools, nut and bolts, metal and other engineering bits and pieces as a thank you when I helped a friend clear out her fathers house and workshop after his death. The lathe is all in good working order, although the straight cut gears rattle a bit. Other than a repaint, I have not really had to do anything to it so far. The original 3 phase motor was replaced at sometime in the past with a 3/4 horsepower single phase motor, but this has now become unreliable, so I am about to replace it with a 1 horsepower.

That's a beauty Ray...robust and compact at the same time.

General view of my workshop, from which you can see that it is pretty compact (small!) - approximately 10ft x 7ft. Main equipment is the lathe plus a drill press and a Clarke CMD10 drill/mill.

Ray looking at the size of that image the forum software will be rejecting it due to its size.

We ask people to post smaller images because many of our members have poor internet access speed or use mobile phones to keep in touch with what it going on: Large images take a long time to download (if they arrive at all  :().

Thanks for the advice Jo. Can you give me some idea of ideal image size so that I can avoid future problems

A small image of 640 * 480 works fine for most postings.

Thanks Jo. That size seems to work fine. What confused me was that the website says that you can add up to 8 attachments totalling a maximum of 10240KB and I was only trying to attach one photo of 981KB but it still wouldn't accept it. At least I will know what to do in future. Thanks again for the guidance.

Ray-

That is a very nice lathe.  That they were used on sub's indicates that they are something to behold.  To get it for free,  that's just amazing.
