I was taught the method by an old sailor who was a dab hand at putting ships in bottles:-

This is some of the materials and tools (balsa wood and dowelling)

First you need to know the inside and neck sizes of the bottle the neck is easy mine was 20mm but for the inside you need to make a little gadget I used a coffee stick for mine

Just insert it into the bottle and find the smallest size and mark the stick remove from the bottle set it back on the mark and read off the size mine was 40mm.

Next mask off the neck of the bottle as you don't want to get it all glued up.

Then paint the bottom with PVA adhesive and pour in some oo gauge track ballast shake the bottle so it stick to the glue poor out the access and put to one side for the glue to dry.

If you haven't figured it out yet you make the train in sections the first bit is the track made from coffee sticks and balsa I built it up in a coffee stick frame frame held down with drawing pins, just make sure the width will go through the neck and the length will fit the base mine was 120mm long, I also stuck the wheels as well

Next make the other bits for the train all the time checking they will got through the neck and fit in the bottle.

I just painted the parts with felt tip pen.

To assemble  the bits in the bottle you need a pair of long nosed tweezers a pin stick in the end of a bit of dowelling and a length of wire with a flat end I made mine form a metal coat hanger.

Put a blob of bostick adhesive on each sleeper and using the tweezers insert it into the bottle use the wire to press it down let the adhesive set before you put in the next bit.

You assemble the train from the back push the pin into the part, apply adhesive put it in the correct position and use the wire to push it off the pin and manoeuvre it into the correct position.

The last part to be assembled is the boiler and cab.
