Title: Not a Cretors (for a change)
Post by: tinkerer on February 03, 2018, 09:24:44 PM
Here is a cute Kingery popcorn/peanut wagon a friend of mine owns. Thought maybe a different maker might interest others.  The engine is a near copy of the cretors. The corn popper is a dry popper. There was some disagreement as to the best way to pop corn. Cretors patented the popping of corn in a seasoned (flavored) oil (lard back then LOL). Others thought the corn should be popped dry (air popped?) then buttered.

Some details of the engine. It's a near copy of the Cretors but a few slight detail difference.

Nice looking engine, thanks for the pictures.

With the amount of popcorn consumed while watching threads around here, seems like we should all make one!

It looks like the crank end of the cross head guide has a 'foot' on it that attaches to a pad on the crank bearing casting. The models I've seen make the cross head guide one piece with the crank end, and so much harder to make...???

Nice engine, and cart!

That cart looks to be in great shape indeed. Pete, the Myers half scale is the same, a foot on the crosshead guide that attaches to the bearing stand.

Pete: Yes there is a shoe on the bottom (area of most wear?) if you notice the front of the crosshead slide is straight also. That's a slight difference detail as well.

The flyball design is a bit different than Cretors too & the steam plumbing crosses over the cylinder. Instead of staying back behind. These are some of the slight differences I'm noticing between the original makers. Haven't had a chance to study a Dunbar up close yet.

Found a Stutsman Ideal wagon stashed in the back corner of a barn. It's been changed over to electric.
