Title: My Virtual Engines
Post by: ausdier on July 24, 2012, 06:30:27 PM
Just like to share some of my virtual engines that I can make while I sit here and watch some TV. 8)
As I get better setup in my workshop at least I will know what I want to make should have all right dimensions. :)

My main current project a 5" steam train.

very nice engines Ausdier

What scale is that horizontal corliss job, A corliss is an engine I've fancied doing but getting it at a size where it becomes posible to make the valve puts me off, toyed with the idea of doing one with an over scaled valve

Thanks for showing

Stew

Hi Stew, thankyou very much as well.
The valve diameter for this one is 3/8".

If you like those so far then you won't MINE this one.

Ive been working on building a virtual engine as well, im new to cad modeling and just purchased alibre cad 2 weeks ago. Id like to think I was a quick learner, but honestly the software just make it look that way lol..

I really like that one!!!   Im sitting here now working on my simple bar stock engine trying to get used to the software.  Maybe once I gain some more experence Ill try something like that.

Nice models Ausdier.
I am seeing more and more of the virtual engines online.

I don't have the render package, but here is the latest model I have worked on.
It is a work in progress, with the intent of casting this engine one day.

And a 3D pdf.

Just went through your thread.
Lovely models.

I've just started CAD and one thing I like is the ability to work/play even when I can't get into the shop.

Thanks Carl.
Good luck with your CAD as well, hope to see one of your models here soon.
I do most of my CAD work when I am sitting in front of the TV of an evening.
Cheers.

Good stuff Ausdier.  I owe you a hearty thanks for doing a virtual cylinder head for my Bonzer engine.  You got me to thinking outside the box and though I didn't use your design exactly it got me over one of the initial hurdles I was facing when I first considered making the Bonza.  Then that led to AussieJimG and well the rest is history.

Your models may be virtual now but they may lead someone to build one

Cheers,
Phil

Thanks a lot for that Phil, I am truly glad that I was able to help in some small way.
Who knows, maybe one day when I get some room I might be able to make something like this for myself.
Cheers and keep up the good work.

So this put a bit of a FIRE under me to post it.  :lolb: :hammerbash:

Awesome models. It would be a real challenge to build some of those from metal and wood. I enjoy machining, especially learning new things, but I may be more of a "virtual model" person. I got about halfway through building a small engine that I modeled using TurboCAD 3-D, but as I made parts and assembled it I found how hard it is to hold tolerances and actually get something together and moving smoothly. And I see changes I might like to make, but more easily done on a virtual machine.  ;) :atcomputer:

Thanks a lot Paul.
I hope some day soon when I get a few bigger projects done I might be able to start something myself.

Here is a sterling idea.
A 10-inch Stirling Engine Powered Fan called Moriya.
Designed by Dr. James. R. Senft.
Drawn with Inventor Pro 2012.
Rendered with keyshot 5.
Also a 3D PDF.

Well this one is a real screamer.
Here I have the WREN MW54 Turbo-Jet.
Drawn with Inventor Pro 2012.
Rendered with Keyshot 5 and Inventor.
Unfortunately the 3D PDF is 11.6 meg so I can't put it here.
However if you like you can download it from this website as well as a step file if you have CAD.

I thought I would hop into this one as a good mate sent me the plans.  :cartwheel:
Thank you very much mate.  :praise2:
The plans were good with only a couple of minor errors.
I changed a couple of things, like making solid bearings/bushes and not split and so made some of the shafts in a few pieces.
I also tried to keep all the fasteners to studs and nuts, and also tried to keep them to only a few of the same size.

Here are a couple or renders and a 3D PDF for people to have a good look around.

Unfortunately in the 3D PDF it won't show threads so you will just have figure it out.
I hope someone can use this info or it gives people ideas.

Cheers and thanks for looking.

PS. Always looking for my next set of plans to draw.

Sorry I can't seem to upload the 9.6 meg PDF, tonight so will try later.
Cheers.

Thank you for all the kind comments.

It looks like there is a problem with uploading the 3D PDF as all I get is this error message.  :wallbang:

If anyone knows where I can post this 9.61 meg file so everyone can get it and have a look please let me know and I will put it there.

Sorry about that but if you want to have a look for sure then just PM me your email and I will send it to you.  :atcomputer:

Easiest way is probably a Google drive account (7GB free, if you don't mind sharing with Google! - i would not use it for personal information)

Great models by the way :-)

Well thanks to the posting of the Motor boys plans I decided to do one of them quickly and add another to my virtual collection.
I fig-ure that one, two or tree of these would fit nicely into some ones pocket.
unfortunately I would like to be able to post a 3D PDF of the model but it is 4.61meg.
However if anyone would like a copy PM me and I will send a copy freely.

Firstly, thank you Admiral.
Next, I have posted the model at this free CAD site. Free to join and no BS.
https://grabcad.com/library/fig-tree-pocket-twin-aero-engine-1
You can get Inventor models or just a 3D PDF.
Cheers.
PS I also did another render with Keyshot 5.
PPS any request for my next Virtual Engine ?

Not quite an engine this time, just a vital part for some.
I am sorry I don't remember where I got the drawings for this one but if someone tells me I will put it on here to give credit where credit is due.
Here I present for your viewing pleasure and information, A Globe Valve.
There is also a small enough 3D PDF so you can get a good view.
Hope someone likes it and is useful to them.
Cheers.
