Hi guys.
I am at the point that i need to choose my paint and it's colour for my simplex loco. I am using black smooth spray hammerite for the frames. Good coverage and hard-wearing.
Going to use exhaust\bbq paint for the smokebox to withstand the heat there.
My question is what type of paint should i use for the tanks, can and boiler. I need a decent gloss finish that is hard wearing but needs to withstand a reasonable heat. Suggestions please.

Hi guys,

My son in law has given me a can of paint that should do the job. It's brake calliper paint so high temp high gloss and no primer. Might as well give it a try. Subaru blue sonic metallic.

There is also engine paint at the auto parts store. Most are good up to 650F. Comes in a lot of different colors.

The engine paints I looked at all needed baking to be effective. Are there some that don't need that?

The one I used needed to be baked at 200F for an hour. The exhaust paint was 200F for 30 minutes, let cool, 400F for 30 minutes, let cool, 600F for so minutes, let cool. That was a bit of a pain in the butt.

No baking needed. One coat system needing no primer.

Sprayed my wheels with the paint I was given but crap colour. Been to Halfords and bought a better colour of calliper paint.
