Hardinge 5C quick index head with leaver collet closer. Stiff and has some surface rust...but all there.
$20.... 8)
No body had a clue what it was..... :disappointed: I know cause they asked me what it was, and I had to demonstrate....
I'll get a snap and post if interested...

An estate sale score after someone passed? I’m sure that half the stuff I’ve got stashed around would be identified by my kids as “more of Dad’s junk that Mom always complained about “. Nice score by the way and at least someone has it that will put it to use. I’m envious!

Nice. Yeah, please post a pic of it when you can.

Saweeet: guy tried to buy a couple of my old shotguns last week and I told him that I was gonna hang onto them for awhile longer. He said: “That’s okay, I’ll buy them from your son for half what I was gonna offer :lolb: :lolb:) Bastard :lolb:, but it’s the truth :old:

Old machine shop that sat abandoned for many years. The owner then horded all kinds of optical/physics stuff....obsolete MIT stuff. Guys been clearing it all out for a while prior to razing the building
I think I found an owner for the old Hardinge Cataract Miller that was in there.

And Oh by the way
It is a Harding HV-4 5C. Used on the bay at $400-$700....Japanese clones new at $600.

How do you index it. I dont see a crank handle in the pics on google.
I had a guy give me one like that but it's the Haas version with air release and motor to index. I spent about 100 bucks getting it runnung but Mach3 has control of it now. You are going to love it!!

Here they are
-
The index lever is on the front. The handle behind that is the spring loaded detent pin. So Pull the detent lever forward, and then index the spindle with the ratchet lever until the next index hole comes up.

Here's a mark up of the picture
It has a lever action collet closer as well. works nice!

So now I have 3 index fixtures. One index fixture is W12 collets One is 3C collets, and now this one is 5C collets

Yeah i knew how the closer worked. Just didn't know how the index part worked. You got a great deal.
-
Great score, and not much rust at all. What there is looks cosmetic only. Should clean up very nicely.

Dave,
Great catch, I must be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Nothing wrong with collecting having the right dividing head to hand for each job :)

Might do that today...I've got a mess in the shop anyway that needs cleaning, to say nothing of the chips

I almost never find these deals.....so I jumped on it. I also had the opportunity to save a Hardinge Cataract Stark horizontal mill....and very early one. I was successful!.....I found a new owner for her, so she's not going in the dumpster...it's a 5C machine with an arbor. Spindle feels great!. It felt good to save one from the scrapper....
