Title: Valve Packing material source?

Anyone know where I can purchase a small quantity of Valve Packing Material, US or elsewhere?

Most any place which sells plumbing supplies. Home Depot. Lowes, local hardware store etc

What I have found at the big box stores in the US is a round extruded type material usually imported and not that good IMHO. For braided, Teflon impregnated packing seal material down to 1/8" square check McMaster. If you need something smaller you can always unbraid it as well.

Look for graphite packing string for faucets. Use to come in generic faucet repair kits. Big box stores may have it if still made.

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing here, but for packing glands on the end of steam cylinders where the rod exits, I use plumbers Teflon tape. Tear off a piece about 3 or 4 inches long and roll it back and forth between your thumb and finger. It will become a "rope" which then works great for packing glands.

The stuff I like to use is round Teflon valve stem packing. You can split it along its length to make smaller sections like string cheese.
