I have just signed up to be a Forum Member, my main interest is home machining of small steam engines. I do however enjoy all types of engines from small to large and appreciate viewing the work of others. I am retired and live on Sam Rayburn Lake and enjoy fly fishing when not in my shop.

Welcome to MEM Thomas :hi:. Oddly enough Sam Rayburn Lake (or rather the state in which it is located) was one of the questions on Jeopardy this evening. Glad to have you join us. Hopefully you will have some pictures of your engines to post once you get your bearings.

Welcome!! Would love to see some pics of your work, etc. Looking at what others do, and learning from that, is at least half the fun of the hobby!!

Hello Jo,
In the past I only built "kit" engines from castings, but I am now designing and building from bar stock. I have been away from the hobby for a number of years now. I have a new small home shop with 2 lathes and 1 mill along with the other small machines and tools. So far I have built two kits and two original design engines, ( short videos I have posted to youtube ), and currently working on a new design. My current project is a 3-cylinder made mostly from brass bar stock. I am not a machinist so it takes me a lot longer, but I enjoy the process.
I am also enjoying viewing some of your work and others on this forum.
Have a great day,
-
Welcome to MEM Thomas.
I just watched the 2 videos of your Travis No. 1. What a nice slow runner! I'll be checking out your other videos.
If you feel like it, it would be great to see some pictures of your shop (over in the "My Workshop" forum) and hear about what equipment you're using.

Hey Jim,
Did not have any photos of my shop so I went and made a short video and started a new thread in My Workshop and posted the video / link.
My shop is small but it serves my need quite well.
Thanks for the welcome,
