Newbie from Northamptonshire
« on: June 20, 2020, 12:21:34 PM »
Hi Everyone
I've always been interested in all things mechanical and mainly spent my time restoring motorcycles, a couple of years ago I took early retirement and developed a interest in machining and steam engines in particular. I set about converting the single garage which is home to a couple of Laverdas into a workshop which is now also occupied by a Boxford aud lathe and a sieg mini mill.

To date I have completed two Stuart kits a V10 and a S50 and I'm now looking to progress onto a slightly more complex project ( ideas are more than welcome ) I have no formal training in machining and just learn as I go along, many mistakes have been made but hopefully learned from plus my education has been greatly enhanced by the more knowledgeable contributors on youtube.

Welcome!  You have good taste in bikes - not hard to guess the model of your Laverda!  A great love of all things Italian here, especially Guzzi and alfa (70's and earlier.)
You'll learn a lot here there are some fabulous builds.

Thanks for the welcome, and yes Nick it is a bit of a giveaway using RGS as a username although I do have 1973 SF1 750 that I bought as pretty much a basket case 3 years ago and is almost ready for the road following a complete restoration using as many as the original parts as possible, just a bit of wiring to do and all should be ready to go.

Like the old Guzzi's but never had one myself but a couple of friends have them, just can't beat the Italians for style.

I like Guzzis as well but while British bikes would leave a puddle of oil where ever you parked them Guzzis left a little rust behind ::)

Hi Joe,

I'm also in Northamptonshire, (close to J16 of the M1) would be good to meet up sometime once normality returns to discuss engines and bikes!

Hi, I am also in Northamptonshire, Boughton.

I am much more of a newbie, I don't even own a lathe. I do have model helicopters though.
An engineer at heart but not in practice, yet.

Hi Mike,

Helicopters are addictive - Gaui 200 and Walkera V120D02 here.
