Hello from the Malvern Hills
« on: October 23, 2020, 10:31:56 AM »
Hi Guys,

Returning to model engineering after a 40 year break and now in the process of setting up the workshop.  First job will be to complete the 80% finished 10V I started at school!  I worked with Harrison, Boxford, and Myfords lathes back then, but am now researching acquiring a new Asian lathe/mill combo from the usual suspects.  After the 10V, I can see myself taking on a larger Stuart vertical or beam engine - and ultimately perhaps a 3 1/2" gauge loco.  I found the forum searching for the lathe size I'd need to machine the largest components of same.  Thanks for having me.  Best. Tim

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum.  You are planning some nice models there.

The next suburb to us is called Malvern but I am guessing it is not the same one.  Which country are you in?

Hi Tim, welcome to the forum - a 40 year gap in completing a Stuart 10V seems perfectly reasonable to me, I completed mine, which I bought when 16 and did some work on the castings, when I was about 64!  And it still needs painting...   Dave

Thanks MJM.  Yes, there are a few Malverns out there.  I'm about 8000 miles below you, upside down in the UK !  :)
