You can't cut a 9 or 10 tooth gear with gear cutters  :-\

Check out the feeny build log.   He makes skew bevel gears, but I see no reason why you couldn't use the same method to cut helical gears based on the results he had with this method....

Putting it in perspective: I can order the electric motor plus reduction gearbox for £16..... I'd like to find a cheap supply of just the gears.

There is the RC car world, but I don't see them in Mod 0.5,      I do see them in 48 DP and 64 DP,   but the price is the same as  your commercial choices..

Could I get the resolution needed for such small teeth on my 3D printer  :noidea:

Likely to be difficult to get the strength and resolution needed from an FDM printer. If you could get your hands on a resin printer, you might be in business!

Which gear in particular is damaged?  the small pinion or the larger driven spur or both?  Would you be able to retrofit a metal pinion in place perhaps?

I would just hire a cleaner. No gears to break and easily replaceable. :lolb:
I used to have a friend.....but the rope broke and he ran away :(
