Piston rings for little brother engine
« on: May 24, 2020, 08:41:21 PM »
Hi everybody,
a member of our German forum is looking for some piston rings for the little brother engine.
Dimension should be 0,75" x 0,04" x 0,061"
Does anybody know a source, or where to buy it of the shelf ?

Kind Regards
Achim

Dave Reed probably has them.  Don’t know if he ships to Germany.  You could ask at “otto@ringspacers.com”

The Little Brother drawings say no rings are required.

Hi Craig, thanks for the tip.
I have had a look at his home page and he does offer a 3/4 x 1/16 piston ring for model engines for 5 USD.
So sure what is required.

As Jo says they are intended as oil grooves but shaped so you can fit rings if your fit is not good. Three rings on a little engine like that will give a lot of drag.

Another option if the grooves have not been cut yest would be to fir a Viton O ring, just one will do. Should be able to get a BS115 easy enough even in Europe.

Hi Jo and Jason,
thanks for all your information.

To be honest I have no idea about his engine and how it looks like.
He told me, that he has done a rebuild, which ends up in a broken piston ring and some help is needed.
He told me that it should be a Little Brother Engine and the size of the piston ring is 0,75" x 0,061"  for me it seems to be close to 3/4 x 1/16 as a well known standard size.
In the meantime I know that Stuart has this size in stock, but also my favorite Greece piston ring seller has it also.

So thanks for all the efforts.

Jason......is the bore a nominal 3/4" or 19.05 ID?

a BS 2-115 = 17.12 ID x 2.62 section ...therefore is ~~22.36 OD
a BS 2-016 = 15.60 ID x 1.78 section ...therefore is ~~19.16 OD

From this, I believe the dimensions of the BS 2-016  :happyreader: would be a closer selection should o-rings be needed or used for the 3/4" bore

Sort of, I'd been looking at another of his engines that also used oil grooves just to be certain and that had 7/8" bore.

So for the 3/4" bore I'd actually stay with the same section and use a BS113
