Thanks guys
It really is lovely stuff to machine
Just don't look too close at the bulkhead  LOL
Ive been thinking about the coolent space around the bores
As there is no cast in coolent space, I'm toying with the idea of machining the space right up to the top deck and making the last 1/4 inch of the sleeve a plug for the water space, any thoughts?

Have no idea how to get one of my napkin drawings on the post but what I'm thinking about is simply boring oversize for the water jacket except at the bottom and having the top of the sleeve close off the water jacket if you get my drift.
Would it work?

Hey Pete,

I think your describing the same way you did you Wallaby....I think with the head end a bit bigger

That should work just fine......Don't skimp on the loctite

Dave

ps....I find taking photo's of my sketches works well and is much faster than scanning them....

No Dave the Wallaby had a cast in water jacket and I made the bore and sleeve as per the plan
here is a thumbnail drawing of what I was talking about.

The short answer is Yes, it will work - a lot of 'real' wet sleeve engines are done like that.
The older I get, the better I was.

Hi Pete

Looks like a simple way to go.
Providing the outer diameters all intersect enough to allow the water flow, without the water cavity coming out through the side of the block  :naughty: .

You may have to glue them in one at a time, then bore the adjacent water jacket through the flange of the already glued in sleave.

That shouldnt be a problem??

Thanks Tel
I might go this way I think, just gotta pluck up a little more courage first
Hi Bez
The water jackets do not intersect at all but are connected by a hole in the Head with cross holes between the cylinders, but your right it does seem to be the simple way to go

I will work for an interference fit Dave but i will use locktight as a sealer or would coating the liners with varnish be OK, doubling as  rust protection?
On my other Engines I coated the liners with locktight for that reason but now we have 8 of the dam things
Today I drilled and taped to fit the bulkhead and then peck drilled the Cam hole just undersize to be reamed out later.
There is a 1/8 oil hole just above the Cam and I was a little worried the shrinkage would make the oil hole break out, I need not have worried as there was plenty of meat there .
I peck drilled a long series .115 drill from each end and then redid it with a .125 long series :pinkelephant:

Hi Guys
Started making the head pattern yesterday and will cast both heads from the same pattern, May even make up a pattern for the roller rocker bodys after all there are 16 of the suckers and I want to use the same pattern for all of them, Im thinking of maybe making up a couple of small flasks so I can do four at a time :noidea:

Pete,

For loctite to work properly, it needs a gap.   A press fit will just push the loctite out and make a mess and give you a press fit. ::)

About .002"  CLEARANCE for the 680 loctite will do the trick.    IT WON"T COME OUT......EVER......well at least not with out a torch.

I have a 14 HP frameless motor rotor held to the shaft ( about 12" in diameter) on some very large diamond turning lathes with 680 loctite running  24 hours a day in Korea ...and China right now....it works

If .002" clearance is too much out of location for you, leave slip fit or press fit "bands" on the cylinder body diameter to locate the cylinder where you want it.

Good stuff.....BUT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!   very important.

Check this out Dave
I did a cyl Head pour this arvo and despite a little bit of shrinkage, I think I have a usable head.
The shrinkidge is in the cyl deck area where I put a fair bit of meat, maybe ill put it up in the mill tonight and see if I can machine out the shrinkage.
If I get a chance, I hope to cast up the other head on sunday
