Finished Engine
« Reply #150 on: April 26, 2020, 01:36:28 PM »
The engine is finished, but it can not be presented to fire station #3 until the Covid-19 restrictions are removed.
That will give the printer time to print the accompanying photo book of the build and the engraver time to finish the brass plates to be mounted on the oak trim.

That's fantastic John!  Well done.

I really enjoy your build threads and seeing how you deal with all the little obstacles along the way.

The Fire Dept. is going to be thrilled.

Thanks for the nice comments Jim,Jo and Carl.

I have started another model, but will post here again when the booklet is printed and I have donated the engine to the fire department.

Beautiful model, beautifully presented!

Always enjoy watching you build, John.  They fire station will be pleased to have this no doubt, even if it will be weeks till they can receive it.

John

Congratulations on a just an outstanding model build.   I always enjoy learning new techniques to overcome issues presented in model building, you demonstrated many of them with this model.
The fire station will not doubt value this for many years to come.

Thank you all gentlemen. Your kind thoughts are very much appreciated.

Yes, we are in very difficult times. I doubt whether the fire department wants me knocking on their door wearing a mask without introduction.

I will write an email and wait for a response. But I think it will be a month or more when the model is handed to a fire captain with a handshake for the camera both wearing masks.  The handshake, by the way would be out of the question as the two metre rule would still apply.

Stay safe and well all. We share a lot on this site and the virtual friendships forged here are important to us all.

I am very pleased to announce that today, an officer from the Peterborough Fire Department came to my home and picked up from the porch, the 1869 steam pumper which will be displayed in the display cabinet of the city's main fire hall along with other items of historical value related to the fighting of fires.

The steamer is cased for transport along with a booklet describing its construction and may, over time, find its way to other fire stations as well.

Covid-19 has prevented it from being presented formally or viewed by the public at this time.

Let us all hope that this pandemic will pass and allow us to come and go at will and visit family, friends and places of interest such as this in the future.

Stay safe,

John

Thank you Gerrit.

Got word yesterday that the pumper was removed from quarentine at the fire station and put on display.

Because the station is still a no-visit site, the display case in the main foyer is still not visible to the public. However, the Co-ordinator of the station who picked up the engine can be seen here in this photo sent to me yesterday holding the model with the Chief to the left.

Some day, I might get a chance to see it on display!  :)

I am sure not only they appreciate it but over future years many of the younger visitors will be fascinated by it and ask questions like " Did people really fight fires with something like THAT  :o "
