What a lousy topic title.
As many of you know, I just received a Sherline lathe and mill with the intention of converting them to CNC.
But before I do that, I want to learn a little about the capabilities and, most important, the feel of the machines.
So I decided to build a finger treadle engine (actually two of them as gifts to my daughters).
Attached is a CAD of the engine's assembly. I can't seem to find the plans I got but a google search on "finger engine kaje" will get you similar stuff.
It's apparently an improved version of a NAMES plan.
Also attached is a photo of the bits of metal I intend to use.
The plan calls for a 3" flywheel which I don't have. I do have a couple of smaller flywheels from a past project.
I'll start with that and see how it goes. I can change it out later.
Not shown is the base. I have a couple of pieces of wood for that.
This may be slow going. I have the CNC stuff to pursue and T is starting to make noise about gardening.
I'm also helping with daycare for grandson.
He's only 7 months old but you should see him when I take him for a walk through the shop. His arms and legs go crazy as we enter the shop and he loves to see me turn the machines on.
I don't do anything other than turn on and off the machines.
I intend to turn him into an engineer.
