Just managed to get this one to a stage where it could be test run before the end of the year. All scratch built and based on the attached photo.

Super - very ornate and a wonderful runner. Quite mesmerizing to watch the film as it lazily spins. Very nice.

Nice work Jason you just keep spit them out. Question, how did you put the port face together with the cylinder? Bolted, soldered or glued?

Thanks for all the kind words, it was a nice fairly quick project that had been on my list of to do engines for quite a few years.

Don, I'll do a build thread soon but basically the cylinder was turned and then a flat milled on most of it's length, a couple of curved cutouts added to the port plate to accomadate what was still round and then silver soldered together. I should think JB Weld would have done for anyone who does not like soldering and it would also have just been possible to get a couple of screws in there if needed.

I like this oscillator very much. We all talk about "the simple oscillator," but simple can be ornate and mesmerizing to watch.

It is impressive that you were able to make it based on a photo.

Thanks again for the comments, it's had a bit of body filler applied to get the cast look to the base and a lick of paint that is hardening off now. Should have it back together for a few photos and video tomorrow.

While the paint was drying I turned up a bit of yew for the base and gave it a whiff of air. It will run slower than in the video but I did not want to risk a stall while filming and not so easy to control the valves and camera at the same time. I deviated from the usual layout and size of the steam ports that you commonly get on an oscillator and it seems to have paid off.

Lovely engine and is it double acting ?? I like the ornate details as well...

Also just got my ME mag and it has missing pages 87-94. ? Is it just mine or has anybody else's ??

Just opened my print copy that came yesterday and all pages are there, contact subs tomorrow and ask for a replacement to be sent out.
