Sarikhobbies
« on: September 29, 2019, 09:59:12 AM »
I have a question about Sarikhobbies.
Some years ago a did not read good references about this shop.
I like to know how it is now.
Has someone experience with this shop, I would like to order some drawings from them.

Best regards Tjark.

I'll know soon, ordered some drawings from them last week. They say to allow a few weeks since they print them to order. Will let you know what happens.

Hi Tjark,
Just got email saying they shipped the plans. Just under a week from placing the order, so no problem there. Given that it is overseas mail, may take either days or a couple weeks to get through customs and all that, will post when it arrives.

My order arrived today, 17 sheets of heavywieght plans all 33"x47". Printing is quite clear, very good quality. I got the plans for the 2" Fowler ploughing engine (may build one someday at a smaller scale). So, good experience with that vendor, would buy again from them.

The Fowler Class Z7S Ploughing Engine TE3, which I think is also known as the Superba or is very similar to it. Very nice looking engine. The 2" scale is too big for my tools, but it looks like it could be scaled down to 1" or 3/4" easily. These plans were drawn by John Haining, look to be well done (have not gone through them in detail yet, but they look great so far)

Like a lot of his other designs they are probably best described as "stand off scale" which look like the subject from a distance but close up the detail is lacking. The drawings and series in model engineer covered three engines the Z7, Z7s and Superba

I have the castings maturing under the bench but can't see it getting made as may interests have changed.

Hi Chris,

I once built a 2" scale Fowler ploughing engine to a John Hanning design. My PE was a 16HP single cylinder of about the same physical size as the Superba but without the superheater and compound cylinders. Both were a big impressive engines. Have a look at http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,7359.msg154556.html#msg154556.

Note the comments in replies # 18 and #20. There have always been concerns about the accuracy of John Hennings Traction engine designs. If you build an engine to a smaller scale you could always improve the accuracy of the patterns and casting by consulting more historic photosm and add the missing detail.

Thanks guys - I am sort of like the 'casting collector/fondler' set, but like to collect plans instead. Ship plans, boat plans, carving plans...
I want to do a traction engine someday (no tracks! - okay, lots of spokes/etc on the wheels... ) and this one caught my eye. I am used to plans being off here and there (ones I draw have plenty of flaws at first, get mostly corrected as the build goes on, doing a CAD model helps a lot). I got started in steam as a kid with a Mamod traction engine, so the hook is in deep!
