clamping jaws, nice and light weight
« on: September 22, 2019, 03:53:17 PM »

Hello everybody,
the other day I have seen close to a coordinate measuring machine some very small, nice and fine clamping jaws from aluminium.
It was an industrial quality, from Witte, the  clamping system is called Alufix. I am sure they are not inexpensive.
I have made a CAD model in Fusion360 and it get lost  then.
Some days ago, there was an offer at ebay about a piece of 6 mm aluminium plate, AW-7075, for less money, exactly something could be used to make some of these clamps.
Today in the morning I have prepared a CAM program to machine 4 of these tiny clamps.
The inclined surface was made in one go with the 3D adaptive cleaning in 0,2 mm fine steps. The final surface by some sanding.
It was also a good opportunity to reorganize the special corner behind the  CNC-mill, now the whole stuff is out of the swarf bath.
And, yes also the 3D printer was part of it, he has made the black holder for the step blocks, all in the lower row.

A very fine display board of attractive clamps there: when they are tackled as a little job in themselves rather than just a bit of bar with a hole drilled through, they can be quite pleasing to make up.   These are steel ones and a bit larger, and have been very useful.  Dave

hello Achim,

There is very little activity on the MEM forum for some unexplained reason.

So I thought I should comment on your very nice set of light weight clamps. They look so neat and tidy, just right for those smaller jobs. Well done

Thanks (chipswitheverything) Dave, your shown style is also something to think about. I have learned, you never will have enough tiny clamps in different shape.

Thank you Mike, yes this low activity on MEM is something I have noticed too.
Shall we get worried, or getting we all lazy ? (or older ?)
Kind Regards
Achim
