Hi Chris,
it is a pleasure to watch the motion of this engine. Very well done.
It gives the feeling to be very close to an original winding machine.
Kind Regards
Achim

Thanks guys!

Been doing some more searching, and found the style I have been looking for, the rope-drive wheels that they used in places like textile mills to drive the line shafts. Bolton steam museum has one:

I have this little bronze flywheel sitting there waiting in the parts bin saying 'Use Me!' I could turn the rim flat and put in the grooves for the ropes:

It already looks fantastic and runs nicely (a few more hours might make that even better) - but the last bit, that could indicate / anwer - what is it good for / what was it used for, seems like a great addition

Hi Per!

Got the wheel flattened out on the rim and grooved, bored to size, and painted to match the steel parts. Here 'tis:

I like how that looks - going to call this one Done (aside from running it more, of course! ).

Hi everyone,

During this build forum member Johnmcc69 contacted me, and we have been collaborating throughout on an updated set of plans. John has done an absolutely wonderful job of punching up the drawings and keeping them up to date as I made changes during the build. The result is fantastic - great detail and assembly drawings. I am posting them here (will take a couple of posts due to the total size of the files).

The intent on this build was to have a publicly available design for anyone to build - thanks to John that gets easier with a better set of plans. Hope that others build this engine at some point and post about them - as you can see it is a fine runner, and can be built on any size lathe/mill.
