This is mine in action, finally finished it today this courtesy of 3D printing, after letting the XY table age since 2015. Have to tune the steps and acceleration etc. as well as calibrate. That should cut down on the weird noises.

It doesn't do to rush these things ;)

I have been looking at this kit but am still not sure about which software to start with:

https://gocnc.de/shop/en/store/cnc-router/385/proxxon-mf-70-cnc-custom-kit?number=Go10126.1

Ouch... costs more than the MF70! Hopefully the price tag comes with plenty of good advice and support?

Hardware-wise mine will be very much home brewed with some steppers and some bits of metal. I havent started thinking about software much yet - will probably use an Arduino and GRBL for the bit connected to the steppers because I'm used to Arduinos. CAM-wise I have no idea just now. I need to get the axes moving before I start thinking about that.

Fusion360 has a post for Grbl. I wrote GrblPanel a few years ago because none of the usual suspects treated things as a mchinst might think. But I no longer actively maintain it. Works well for milling, lathe, router.

I know ppl who have used that combination on a Bridgeport!

You can buy controllers including drivers for < USD50 that will run Nema17's all day. (Arduino based)
