Nice Set of Well Aged Castings
« on: August 30, 2019, 08:49:36 PM »
Managed to add another set of castings to the heap waiting to be built (6 sets).  These are for the Stuart Steam Hammer.  Originally supplied in 1975. :old:  All bits still predominantly in the packaging as supplied by Stuarts.

The single A4 page of plans is a bit on the small side.  I need to find a larger print of the plans or have my eyesight upgraded

Nice acquisition Colin. Well aged yes, but none of the special brown coating.

You surprise me Jo.  I thought you had all the different castings that are available, :stir: or is it just Surus who has them all and he only lets you see them occasionally as he has them hidden away.

Bill, yes they are very nice and clean.  Possibly by the time I get round to them they might have a bit of the brown stuff, they will certainly be aged a bit more.

Colin

Why not scan the drawing and save it as a .jpg file. You can then manipulate it, zoom in on bits, blow it up, etc at your leisure.

Colin,
The last suggestion sounds easier than upgrading the eyesight option.

I think there was a build article in ME in the last year or so if you want words to go with the music.

AVTUR,

That's a good idea, I had not thought of doing that.

Jason,
Thanks for that reminder, I had a feeling I had seen a build log in the not too distant past.

Bill,
Perhaps I should sell Surus this set of castings. Not sure he could afford them on the pocket money he gets of Jo, if he even gets any.

Colin as you have posted this in the build log area we are anticipating seeing parts of them turned into swarf very shortly   :pinkelephant:

He doesn't get pocket money, don't give him ideas like that  Its bad enough that he seems to get everything he wants  :noidea:

Hi Colin, in case it's of interest, I did a build write up of my ST steam hammer on this forum, in Engines, around end of August 2016.   I found it an interesting and pleasing model to make.   Can't tell from your picture whether your set of bits includes the oiler and the stop valve, but they could be made from stock material for the most part if fancied.   Dave

Dave,  Will certainly have a look at your build log.

Jo, Sometime in future. Building shed base for next few weeks and rebuilding rear suspension on car at present.

Dave,
Just had quick skim through your build log. Very nice. My castings did not come with the oiler or stop valve materials and they are not shown on the plans. Will need to do some research.

Hi Colin, thanks for your comment.    I think that the articles by Bertinat, ME Vol 184 that I mentioned in my build notes have got the drawings for the ancillary bits shown in them. I do have the Stuart Turner dwgs.  ( somewhere...! )   If you are stuck to find them and want details at some time, probably best to send me a PM on that matter.   Dave

Dave,

I have managed to obtain the magazines in volume 184 with Bertinat build (and yes they do have the oiler and stop valve plans).  Will certainly need to scan and enlarge both the Stuart and ME plans.

Thanks Colin, the ME articles came a bit late to me for me to use some of his tips, but I thought that there were useful ideas in the write up.  Stuart models seem to have pulled the plug on offering the valve and oiler extras, which seems a pity, they add quite a bit to the interest of the finished hammer.   Dave

Something had been niggling at the back of my mind and then I remembered that there was a Stuart Steam hammer build in which started in Oct 17 and I had all the copies.  SO npow have two sets of build instructions to follow.
