Quick fix
« on: July 31, 2019, 07:52:55 PM »
After many years of use the handle on the tailstock locking lever of my Hobbymat broke  :(  I went to the DIY supermarket and bought a couple of M8 knobs, a quick turn down to 8mm, threading M8, and I was under way again. No pictures of the gash in my wrist from when it broke   :(  I've already posted my daughter with an injured knee  ::)
Best regards

Roger

It is never nice when your tool breaks while you are using it  :hammerbash:

Wounding yourself in the process is even more  :cussing:

Nice that you already has fixed the handle - I just hope that the gash is a quick heal - though the most amazing I've seen recently, was Tug showed me his hand had been caught be the prop on one of his 5cc diesels and two weeks later there was hardly a mark off the wound left.

 It lasted 20 years... I wonder if I have any more of those tapered knobs left  :noidea: You will never guess where they came from  :naughty:

Are you going to replace the other one with a round knob?

Hi Roger,
Nice fix.  Sorry to hear about the war wound, I hope you had a smoothing ale to clam the nerves........

Now you could’ve gone the whole hog, made a ball turner & made a custom knob from ali!

Oh BTW I had a great day at the Steam Fete in Zurich!

Cheers Kerrin

Thank you all

Glad you enjoyed Zurich Kerrin  :)

Jo, those knobs always reminded me of the feet on a trivet my mother once had but they are probably from a supersonic aircraft  :stir: I did buy a second round knob but don't plan an immediate replacement of the quill locking one.

Well....if you use machinery long enough....you're going to get "bit"....the trick is to make sure it's a small bite....and all the digits follow you home.    Nice repair!
