Introduction
« on: July 10, 2019, 07:09:47 AM »
Hello fellow model enthusiasts! Thank you for allowing me to join the mob.

I am truly an old timer, at the wrong side of 70 and having dabbled in many projects - far too many so that I find myself with so much that I will not be able to finish in the time I may have left. I have built - or attempted to - single cylinders, twins, fours, V-8's and even a three cylinder I designed and built from scratch. Only some of my projects actually ran, the reason being that for me the real fun is building, designing, scheming, devising all kinds of methods to machine this and that so that when the project is done it ends up on the shelf for fondling, ogling and now and then showing it to visitors.

So, here I am, hoping to learn some more from fellow model engine builders and enthusiasts.

Cheers for now.

Nico

Sounds like you have been busy.

We would love to see and hear more about the model engines you have built.  8)

Hi Nico and welcome to the group.

You sound just like myself.  I build it, make it run, play with it for a couple of days and then forget it (wife takes possession and puts it on a shelf).

Thank you guys for the welcome.

I have been out of modelling for some time due to too many projects as mentioned. Need to dig into the archives for pictures of my stuff and I will post some as soon as the Forum will allow me to post some pics.
Meanwhile, I have some reading to do on this Forum so please excuse me for a tad to catch up on some of the natter right here. :help:

Hi Mike and thanks.

I'm located in South Africa - just managed to update my profile also. The Forum will not let me post pictures or add an avatar yet, I suppose it wants me to post a minimum of messages before I will be allowed to post some...

Hi Nico,
welcome to MEM.
What you have written about your way of modeling is very close  to my intention to do it.
Hope to see some picture of engines soon.

Kind Regards
Achim

Thanks Bill.

It seems like a nice crowd I have joined and I hope that you will put up with my humor (humour for the Brits). I tend to see the funny side of things in everything which kinda keeps one young(er)...

Thanks Jo.

I noticed the "add attachments" option and tried it. However, it gives me some message to the effect that the file is too large, even if I try to attach just one picture. When I remove the attachment and try to post the bare reply, it simply does nothing, just like my first attempt at making a single cylinder 10cc from bar stock...

So it would appear that once one has entered the "attachment" mode, nothing else works. I am not sure of the actual size of the picture, which is in .jpg.

Confusion reigns supreme in my household...

Nico, the maximum size for any picture is 1024KB or basically I MB. For forum use resizing pictures to 800x600 or 1024x768 is more than enough to show up well on the forum and with much smaller file sizes. There are several free bits of software out there which can easily reduce the size of todays mega pixel .jpeg images. Perhaps this link will also help
