Oliver gets a roommate
« on: April 25, 2016, 02:46:49 PM »
About a month ago, I got a Deckel SO T&C grinder (EBay). Since the vendor was on my way home from NAMES, I decided to save the shipping and the Neanderthals at UPS and pick it up. Also, I could check it under power. Very quiet and tight. Into the car it went.
I've pulled the motor so I can carry it down to the shop.  Dissasembly, cleaning and lubrication today.

Best,
Stan

Once I get the 220 3 phase wired this afternoon, I'm going to play with it a bit and then cleanup, primer, paint and lube.
I'll have to make some 3/8" square inserts for the round collets.

Stan

Hi Stan, nice find. The town 'Weilheim' here in Bavaria, where the grinder was built,  is 50 km from the place where I live now. So, this Maschine has made a long journey. Have fun with it.
Kind Regards

Mr. Electrically-challenged got big time help from Don1966 to get it hooked up correctly.
My concept was, since I'd never be using the Deckel and the mill at the same time, I'd make double use of the VFD on the mill. After getting the electrical wiring completed Bozo said "Bet the Deckel won't run unless the Bridgeport is also running"
Of course he was correct. New VFD on order.

Are they still made there?

If you haven't seen Tom Lipton make a square hole punch from an old tap on his Deckel, it's worth a look

Stan, the name of the company has been changed meanwhile, but still same  place and building grinding machines.

Digging up an old thread, I know.
Stan, did you repaint the Deckel? I am thinking of touching up my Alexander, seems to be same colour.

Didn't need to repaint. It was obviously well cared for.
