Big Stepper Motor
« on: October 30, 2012, 04:47:42 PM »
Just picked up a 1600 oz in stepper motor on Ebay.  Not sure what I'll use this monster for, but it seems like it will handle anything I want to throw at it.

Did you get a great deal?

Probably not a great deal, but I thought it was a fair price.  It was about $144 including shipping from China.

There was another Chinese outfit that had the same motor for about $10 less with shipping, but I went with the guy who had 100% positive feedback to hedge my bets against any problems.

Got my stepper motor today via FEDEX.  I'm very surprised, it only took 7 days from payment date to arriving at my front door.  According to the invoice that came with it, the purchase price of the motor was $20 which leaves $123 for shipping.  Probably about right considering how much it weighs and how fast it got here.

This thing is a brute.  It's 6" long not counting the shaft, 3 3/8" square, and weighs 11 pounds.  It produces 1600 oz in with maximum currentof 3.5 amps.  It's also brand new.

Now I gotta figure out what I'm going to use it for, maybe an electronic gear hobber?

A gear hobber does sound like a cool project Chuck. Gets my vote.

Contrary to the picture, there sure isn't anything diet or caffeine free about that brute Chuck!!  Nice find. I'm sure you will come up with the perfect application as well.

HI Chuck

I assume that this motor is good for continuous operation & reversible.  If that is the case it would have a enough grunt for a lathe.

what driver would you use with it if fitted to a lathe.

have fun & stay cool
