New shop Lathe & revised Bar stock storage system
« on: June 13, 2019, 02:32:57 AM »
Recently purchased a Weiss 10x30" variable speed lathe. Quite pleased with the low speed function for tapping, remaing, knurling and other slow speed task. Lathe sets on a Sam's sturdy workbench with 1-3/4" laminated maple top, has adjustable leg height and 4 leg leveling screws and goes out the door for$209 plus tax. Added 2 mag bars for storage of frequently used tools, a LED clip on light for the princely sum of $12.95 at Wal Mart. Utilized the under bench space to provide organizer bar stock material trays 8x16" ID to accommodate the 2 ft. lengths of bar stock I purchase or cut to fit the trays as this satisfies about 99% of the projects I undertake. Used a 200 series QCTP for tool holding, it holds a 3/4" boring bar quite securely. This tool holder requires some alteration to fit on the import lathe cross slide, about 1 hr. of machine work. Overall quite pleased with the features and performance.[/img][/img]
