hexagonal Boron Nitride(hBN)
« on: April 15, 2019, 06:27:44 AM »
Has anyone heard of or know anything about medium phosphorus Electroless Nickel(MPEN) coating with encapsulated particles of hexagonal Boron Nitride(hBN)?
I am thinking of trying it as an alternative to hard chrome plate on an 4032 alloy cylinder liner for an AAC engine.
Any info will be helpful.
To me it is a new coating, but may be quite an old technology, I just don't know.
Thanks ,

what is the mating pair, presumably a cast iron or aluminum piston?

The nickel is soft and likes to gall...hex BN is lubricious (like graphite but doesn't burn off as easily), but it will wear/wash away over time.  Interesting experiment to try, though.
