They are Les Chenery Castings/ drawings, they came directly from Les. (I have a set  :-X ) Les' original model is at Old Warden Aerodrome, where my friend Mike Coles sometimes runs his engine.

I don't know of any build threads on line.

Edit: Steve's 1909 Mercedes build http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,8649.0.html should give you a few clues as to some of the challenges and ways to go about solving them. The other build worth a read is the Cirrus one in SIC.

And a comprehensive set of photos of a finished model: https://www.stationroadsteam.com/quarter-scale-de-havilland-gysy-mk1-engine-stock-code-8029/

Would you like to make an introduction post.

If we knew a bit more about your background and what you have made it would make it easier to be able to point you in the right direction to help you build the Gypsy.

Hi,
thanks Jo ,  I  will post an introduction in the correct section.

I think I might have met your friend Mike at the Midlands ME show , I took
a few pictures of a complete Gypsy there and had a quick talk to the owner.
Will be looking through your links today.

Hello Kendo and welcome to the MEM forum.

Ron Colonna did a construction series for a similar engine, the De Havilland Cirrus Mk1 in  Strictly Internal Combustion magazine: issues 30, 31,32, 33, 34 and 35. Both the Cirrus and Gypsy were similar in design, both being 4 cylinder in line air cooled engines, there should be plenty of read across to help you.

I have just discovered a second constitucion series for the same De Havilland Cirrus in SIC issues 49.50,51 and 52 this time by our Eric Whittle

Cheers

Mike

It is the journey that matters, not the destination

Sometimes, it can be a long and winding road

Hi Kendo 57.       I built a Cirrus Mk1 from the articles in SIC  [Ron Colonna series] as mentioned by Vixen.    Whilst not directly alighned to your casting set there is a lot of information which may be of help.   The machining of the camshaft being one example.   For interest I machined my Cirrus from solid stock, a lot of swarf.
If I can be of any help, let me know.
Cheers, Bill.   lantain1982.

Ken-ichi Tsuzuki scratch built a Cirrus based on SIC design/plans. Some good construction pics (among his other nice projects)
