Whut did Santa bring?
« on: December 26, 2018, 07:43:38 PM »
Usually we like minded shop and modeling types use “the season” to acquire some new goodies for the ol’ shid. Let’s see what was in y’alls stocking. Here’s mine:

Nothing that big here, you must have really big stockings! Did get a couple of new sets of carbide carving burs for the sculpture work, also a co-ax dial indicator for the mill.   :)

I normally get a couple more sets of castings  ::)

But this year all I found on the dining room table was some shredded wrapping paper. I am sure that earlier in the morning I had heard something in the dining room and I thought it might be Santa so thought better of going to check but later Surus refused to come out of the casting cupboard as he was busy ... so I am beginning to wonder if he got to the castings before me :noidea:

He may have been digging a new passageway from your casting cupboard to his casting warehouse...

Hello Everyone,

I was a good boy this year and Santa rewarded me with a new Jet wood lathe w/ stand, Rikon 8" low speed grinder, a complete Oneway Wolverine Tool sharpening system and 8 new tools. I will be able to turn some Beams, Columns and Post that will go on several of my next Steam Engine projects.

Have a great day,
Thomas

He tells me he needs some drawings sorting out for a Wall C-601 and a C-602 but he is being a bit cagy about why, so I remain hopeful :noidea: Maybe I should mention to him it is Thursday today  ;)

Two great big halogen lights for the Clausing mill!     I'm waiting on the hard ware and electrical to mount them...but that's in transit.

Santa brought me a new Vise for Christmas!

I had to go out and purchase some mounting hardware for this one :)  That's today's project - getting the new vise mounted on my bench.  I removed the old one yesterday.  Here they are together, the new big boy on the block, and the baby he's replacing:

I've had that little one since I was 15 years old.  My Grandpa gave it to me.  May not be the best vise in the world, but it has lasted me through a LOT of projects over the years!

Regardless, I'm excited to be getting a real vise!  ;D

Beautiful grinder Eric!
Are you planning on grinding lathe tools? I have mine set up with a silicon carbide (green wheel) for carbide, and an aluminum oxide (white wheel) for grinding HSS.
The Glendo tool rests are also a nice addition. https://accu-finish.com/product-category/rough
I'm not sure if they still make them though.

This was a bit of an early Christmas present for the Foredom part of the workbench (see photo). But since it alread has a high intensity light inside it, I ordered a separate short hanger stand and base and will relocate the swing down LED task light from the Foredom area to between the Cowells and Unimat lathes. That way I can swing it over either lathe as needed. The new hanger post and base should be in today on the big brown truck. You can see the jist of what i mean in the second photo.

Seems like old Santa did good. Thanks for looking in Dave O. Yeah for lathe tools, drill bits, and shaper tools ( just gotta find a shaper  :lolb:). I have a import tool grinder with the green wheels what for carbide, but, I vary rarely use it. Been wanting to get a diamond wheel for it for grinding scraper blades. I need to put it on a stand also. Looks like they still sell the grinder attachment
