With the exception of the base, all of the cast iron components in the kit had some chilling. The good news is the replacement cylinder I received from the current owners of Stuart cut just fine. My kit was bought  from the previous owners.

Glad you perservered, Tony.  Engine looks pretty darned good, considering.  I've been eyeing the Stuarts since starting this hobby, but may hold off for now after hearing your experiences.  Though, it might also prompt me to build a forge...hmm. :headscratch:

Don’t let my experience put you off on them. I’ve made three of the Stuart engines so far and this is the first one that was a major issue. The kit I made was bought from the prior owners. The current owners seen to do a better job of screening the castings. My big problem is a closet full of castings acquired from the previous owners. Who knows what they will be like.
