It has been painted and I am going to wait a few days for the paint to harden before any more reassembly. What do you think of the color. Leather Brown!

Great color - sets off the brass well. Maybe a deep green or red pinstripe on the flywheel or somewhere?

Pin stripes are difficult with shaky hands. How about lightning bolts? Thats how the seem to come out.

I've used pinstripe tape with good results, easier to adjust position, and it comes in colors. Hobby shops with airplane stuff usually have it, sometimes auto parts places.

It is as close as I could get, Stew.  I think brown is a shade of black, isn't it?

I think I am done with this one for a while. It is painted, re-assembled, and hung on the wall.  I recommend that you turn your sound way down before watching the video.  My compressor needs new a new valve plate in the head. It can't get enough to put much in the tank so it runs endlessly.  Next job maybe.

The engine is hanging upside down from the original but I can hang it either way.  This way makes the air connection a bit easier.  If I get back to it in the near future, it will be to connect it to some kind of load.  It will turn a fair speed and seems to have plenty of torque.

Thanks for watching,
Jerry

Thank you Chris, Stew and Bill for the kind complements. I am generally pleased with the results. As usual, there are things that could have been done differently, but even at my age, I learn from every project. Mostly minor things. This one is no different and I would love to have time to do it again.

Here is just one of the things that I learned only yesterday.  There is a right way and a wrong way to hang this engine on the wall.  I chose the wrong way because it made the air line hook-up easier, but if you look at the oil cups they cannot be filled in this orientation. Also with the slanted parting on the bearing stands, the weight of the crankshaft and associated parts are hanging on the bearing caps instead of being supported on the stands.

There is also a weight issue that I had not anticipated. The crankshaft has no counterweights so their is a slight vibration caused by that but it is minor.  However, when the engine is hung vertically, The weight of all of the reciprocating parts causes a cyclical thump when the mass reverses direction at the bottom of the stroke that is unequal to the thump at the top.  Because of the additional mass of the side reversing plates it does affect the smoothness of the stroke which becomes more obvious at slower speeds. This could be partially cancelled out by flywheel counterweights.  Not going to do it right now.
