Bob Herder's Myers side shaft hit-and-miss
« on: December 02, 2018, 08:44:52 PM »
I’ll apologize up front for all the mechanical noise; on this video the engine sounds like it’s about to thrash itself apart.  In “real life” it doesn’t sound that way at all, I guess this has something to do with automatic volume control built into the camera?

At this point I’m calling this build complete, (are they ever REALLY complete?).

This is a build of Bob Herders castings and drawings for a (roughly) 1/3 size 1910 Myers “hit and miss” engine.

All in all, the build was a delight.  At a few places the drawings could have been a little more instructive if more than one view of a part had been supplied, but all in all I had lots of fun building this little guy.  It was up and running with a minimum futzing around, unlike some of the other “kits” I’ve built.

At this point the engine is running fairly well; the needle on the mixer is very sensitive, probably a longer taper would help and I may circle around to that sometime in the future.  Right now I think I’ll just run it some to get the ring seated real well and have I ready for the shows next season.
