Officially Shopless
« on: November 11, 2018, 06:36:07 PM »
A picture of my two sons and me.

My entire shop packed up and loaded on the U-Haul, headed for Denver.  Can't tell you how excited the boys are to be taking my tools home.  A whole new world of possibilities has been opened up to them.
So many projects, so little time...

Its nice to know all of your tools are going to be made use of rather than gathering dust and with the tools did you given the boys a list of things you think they should make with them ;)

Hello Chuck,

Not to worry, any time you feel the need you are surely welcome to come over and use my shop. Those two boys definitely have that cfellows smile.

Hello Chuck

That's one of the saddest/happiest, most bittersweet photos I have ever seen.

God bless you all

The truck is obviously fully loaded given its angle :-)

Your legacy will live on, which is something that we all should hope for.

Im glad that happened Chuck.   Thats a great picture!   My greatest memories are when I did things with my kids, thi gs that were important to them became so inportant and meaningful to me.    As they grow , the rolls reverse,   that will be a day they wont forget.

Perhaps in time we will see something from your lads on here, even if it is the set up of their workshops.

Cheers, Chuck. I would just like to begin by saying thank-you. For over the years, I have watched with keen interest, your works coning to life. It seems that a fork in the road of life has been reached and a passing of the torch has been made. Well done sir, and once again thank you. It is my hope that we will see something from your sons projects in metal gracing these pages in the future. Best regards, and good fortune to you.

Chuck,

Best of luck to you, I have looked at your posts for years. As for passing on your tools, they will always remember it/them. Just the weekend I was using a tool my dad had and I thought about him, it would have been his 107 birthday.

My best thoughts to you,
Paul

Chuck,
I spent the last day thinking it must have been a bittersweet moment. But thinking that wasn't right, till someone else said it. I have to say it's a nice two generation photo. They will think of you when they use the equipment, and hopefully will frequent the forum. I am not the one in our household who writes nice things in cards, that would be my wife. You have me thinking about my Dad who's been gone 6 years now. to dad.... :DrinkPint:

It is indeed a bittersweet moment but it makes me think about my own situation. I have three daughters and their husbands and my grandsons have no interest in my shop and would not even recognize most of the tools and equipment. They have only been in my shop a couple of times to borrow some tool or to have me repair something. They can out twitter and out smart phone me any day of the week. At 78 I am going to have to start thinking about what to do with my shop and finished projects. I know that I will be gone and not aware of what happens but it just bothers me to think of all of my stuff just dumped in the trash or sold to someone for pennies on the dollar. I do not know any others in the area who would be interested in it either but I have to admit that I have not looked too hard either.

Thanks to all of you for the well-wishes and kind comments.  Unable to sit still for long, I've begun renewing my interest in micro computers and electronics.  I still have the tools and space to build circuits and interface with smart phones and computers.  Also lots of youtube videos to entertain me and teach me new things and new products.

Both of my sons are men of modest means and, while driven to be creative, have not had access to machine tools and accessories.  My shop is a real windfall for them and they are beyond excited to get started.  I had rented the truck for 5 days, wondering if that was enough.  Turns out they loaded it, drove 1000 miles to Denver, and unloaded it in under 3 days.  Didn't get any refund since it was rented under a flat rate, but the relief of getting everything out of my shop and safely delivered to Denver more than makes up for the cost.  Might take them a while to get things set up since it is pretty cold in Denver and the shared shop is not heated.  However, I imagine they are spending as much time out there as their cold hands and ears will permit.

They did get a speeding ticket on the way home.  Guess they were in a hurry to get started...  ;)

Hi Chuck,

It must give you great peace of mind to know that all your tools and equipment will continue to be used and cherished long into the future. Like many others, I am in a position where I have no children and no-one in the family to pass all my tools and models on to when my time comes so will have to make a big decision at some point in the future.
I was looking at your YouTube channel the other day, as I have done many times before, and I never fail to be impressed with the diversity and quality of your numerous projects.
Best wishes

Ray
